transfer case whine

I have an on and off whine coming from my transfer case, so I was wondering what might be the first thing to check or coming things that cause it to whine.

Have you checked the fluid level/ changed it lately? Might be bearings though. I have an intermittent whine as well. It comes from my 2 yo daughter, mainly if she wants chocolate milk. We are working on it though.

No I haven't tried anything, yet. I just wanted somewhere to start. Do you know how hard it would be to replace bearings if it came to it?

First the fluid, a bearing starts and just gets worse. It usually doesn't come and go. Your fluid thins with heat so my guess is the whine gets louder depending on how long you been driving

Re: transfer case whine

Nope, it can start 30 seconds after I start the truck on a 40 degree morning. It usually starts around 10 mph and it just starts, it doesn't wind up, it's just there or not there no in between. But yet sometimes it won't start till you are going 30 for a few minutes. It really is baffling me. I will try to replace the fluid, what type do I need to use?
