hey, noob from missouri in a 72 needing some advise....ive read the longbed problems with the carrier bearing in these trucks when you lower them..if i lower the rear say,,3 inches..is there gonna be any issues? when is the point to where you need to go to a single driveshaft? any help would be appreciated.. its a 350/350 short tailshaft 1/2 ton..thanks..

Re: how low in a 72 longbed?

I would go to a single driveshaft over any truck with a carrier bearing.
That will be a REALLY long driveshaft,... especially with a short shaft TH350.
If you have to run a carrier bearing,... the style with a rear "slip yoke" are superior to the original design that came in these truck.

I had a lowered '69 that had a 3" rear drop, 30 years ago.
I believe I shimmed the carrier bearing mount to help with the bad angles.

Lowered a lot in the back. This is at least 9" down from stock. Fender lip is at 23.5" I believe. No driveline vibration at all at this height. Longbed. Two piece shaft and stock carrier bearing. Worst case you just raise the whole bearing UP about an inch or so depending on your drop. Just make a spacer block from some box tubing. Easy fix. Cheaper than buying shims.
