What year of 454 is good to buy for performance?

I am looking to build a 454 engine that will have at least 550 to 600hp with about the same amount of torque with a stock block being able to take that kind of power. I noticed there are 1 piece rear main seal blocks and 2 piece rear main seal blocks but not sure which would be better.

What year of 454 engine would be good to start with?
Which would be good Rectangle or Oval port aluminum cylinder heads?

Depends!
What do you intend for the motor to do?
Street cruising, 1/4 mile, etc!
And why stick with a 454.
You could build a stroker.

And what’s your budget?
