Reverse lamp switch
I have a 72 K5 4WD automatic (TH350). The reverse light switch is leaking when I put it into reverse. I cannot find a new switch anywhere. Any suggestions out there??

The reverse light switch for your Blazer is located on the steering column near the firewall. It is part of the neutral safety switch for automatic tranny equiped trucks. Only the manual tranny models have a reverse switch on the tranny itself. Not sure what you are referring to on your tranny. Post a picture of the leak, and you will certainly get an answer from someone.

Thanks cleszkie!! I'll surely get a pic as soon as I get back into town. But to explain it a little further, the switch that is leaking is just in front of the dip stick tube for the trans. Its a single wire switch. It only leaks in reverse...actually, it leaks all the time, but in reverse, the fluid sprays out.

Not sure what that wire could be. My TH350 has no wiring. Do you have a tranny temperature gauge? Maybe it's a temp sending unit that someone installed. Pics will definitely help.

Definitely not the vacuum modulator or the vacuum line. Here is two pics of the switch on and off the tranny.

Man, you got me....never saw it before. Ill check my spare tranny to see if it even has a threaded hole in that location.Someone on here has an answer for you....

Judging by the look of it, I would say that is a temperature gauge sending unit. Do you have both tranny cooler lines attached to the tranny (2 lines, one takes the ATF to the cooler in the radiator and the other is a return line)? If not, the previous owner (PO) may have installed this temperature sending unit where one of the tranny cooler lines was supposed to go. If both cooler lines are in place, the PO may have driller and tapped a new location for the sender. I'm at a loss for any other explanation.

Thanks, it's stange to me too. TH350's without the switch has a pipe plug installed. It looks more like a pressure switch because the end that sticks into the tranny is a hole and not a solid piece of metal like a temp switch. Both of my tranny cooling line are installed.

Cant be a reverse switch then, because it would have pressure no matter what gear youre in. It wouldnt hurt to have a temp. switch tho, want to put one in mine....maybe the bimetal piece broke off? Hate to say it, but you could drop your pan and see if it is laying in there
Is it leaking out of the threads, or the crimped bakelite housing

The switch is for the TCS system used in 1971-72. It disabled the vacuum advance in all gears except high gear. You can leave it in place unused, or remove ad plug it. That hole is the third gear pressure port.

I forgot , TCS stands for transmission controlled spark. I got this info from the Crankshaft Coalition website.
