In the near future I'l be picking up a 68-72 chevy/gmc. I'm about 99.9% sure I want to drop it on bags. I'd like to go pretty low but not to the point of major frame modifications. I'm ok with notching the frame but I don't really want to go past that. I've looked at Porterbuilt's stuff and can't really put a setup together for front and back. I'm also not really sure what all I need in order to do the drop. For Air management I was looking into AccuAir, there system are GNARLY! I don't know if I really need something of that level for what i'm doing though. If you guys could share your setups that would rule! looking to get the best bang for my buck.

you can go simpler than porterbuilt if you wish to do a little more labor.
the front is simple as far as no real big modifications.
you can plate the upper spring pocket and stick a cup in the lca that requires NO welding
the front for just putting bags is simple and cheap

the rear you can bolt in bags in the stock location of the coils
a panhard bar will be required and portebuilt sells a really good bolt on kit
it wont be low but it will give you a nice ride.


as far as airing it up i would rock the schrader valves till you want to go more in depth or even just manual paddle valves
simple but yet effective!

i highly recommend going on these websites and looking at what they have.
it will give you the best bang for your bucks.

A few questions you need to ask yourself first,How low do you want it you can go pretty low or laying frame low.How much of a budget do you have to play with.

Well i have a custom motorcycle fabrication business so fabrication is not a problem. I just want to be pretty low. Not lay frame... Budged is not huge but I would like to do things right.

Porterbuilt has a mid dropmember front and rear that will get you really low but you will have to cut the bed and remove the front inter fenders.But if your good with sheet metal you can make your own no problem or hills hot rods sell them.

Just got a quote about a "Basic" setup from porterbuilt. Almost $6,000.00 Looks like its time to play the saving game.


If you guys could post a picture of your trucks and a general rundown of your setup that would be rad!

If you really don't plan on spending a lot of money I would practice the fab skills
I handbuilt everything for my truck
Check out my build thread and you should get an idea of how easy it is
I went a different route from the conventional bags on trailing arms but I still got all the drop I need

Honestly these trucks are already ment to bag so work with what you have

A few kits to look at http://www.azproperformance.com/Pro-...its-67-72-C10/ If you can weld good porterbuilt does offer weld in dropmembers that are a little bit cheaper.Or http://www.scottshotrods.com/ has a bolt in front kit and a weld in 4 link kit.

Thanks for posting up the links andrewmp6. It all depends on low you want to go. Our Pro1 kit is a great way to get the truck low and just using a C-notch with no bed modifications, etc. The kit will come with a dual VIAIR compressor air management kit, using the AccuAir VU4 manifold, AVS Arc-7 control box and VIAIR gauges. The Pro1 will come with everything you need to bag the truck, minus spindles, which can be added. It will have all the fittings, all the way into the bags, which are all DOT approved brass push-to-connect fittings. DOT air line as well.

Travis you have the best kits for these trucks,Your kits are cheap for everything you get its all name brand and its everything anyone will need.

The kit is the way to go! I pieced together a really similar setup, but could have saved time, trouble and CASH with the kit!

not sure if this helps ya out, but heres mine. the front is 2500 bags with 2" drop spindles and recessed cups. rear is stock trailing arms with 2600 bags over the axle, 2" drop blocks and step notched frame. i pieced my kit together and still spent around 1100-1400 dollars. if i wouldve done it over, i would buy the most complete kit possible as far as air management goes...but, there is ALWAYS something else to buy even after a kit. depends on ways you want to route it, or mount it, etc...hope this helps

I would save for an Accuair kit. ELevel is cool and you will wish you had it after you start messing g with air pressure gauges and trying to get your ride heights set all the time so u arnt going down the road crooked. You can do the bolt in front bag kit and replace the rear coils with bags like mentioned above. Dont skimp on the air management system. Save and get the most complete kit you can afford. Be sure to get a manifold system with push to connect fittings. No leaks. If you don't get s manifold then you will have to plumb in 8 separate valves and its a breeding ground for leaks. Accuair switch speed system is around $1000 and comes with manifold and all plug and play wiring. Super easy. You can always add the eLevel preset ride height stuff later as al their kits are interchangeable and easy to add onto. I love my Accuair and wouldn't trade it for anything
