Is this rear stock?

Can someone please tell me if this rear end is stock for a 62 c10? I’m looking at putting 2” drop coils and 2” drop blocks but dont want to get started if im not sure what I’ve dealing with. I know the air shocks are not stock. But with that being said do you need both coils and shocks? Thanks

This rear end is not original for a '62. This is a 12 bolt from '65 and later. But that's no problem when you want to install dropcoils.

If I buy shocks, coils and drop blocks for a 65....i should be good with an easy swap? And also buy a 65 trac bar?

Drop blocks for a 65 won't work because of the U-Bolt setup. Shock setup is also different from 62 - 65 so I would look at the lengths of both of them and go from there. Coils and track bar should be just fine. If you're lowering it I would consider an adjustable trac bar.

The 62 had longer panhard bar mounted to axle tube. And was a round pumpkin. The arm mounts would be wider than the mounts that are stock to rear or leaf.

The u-bolt setup looks.... strange.

The u-bolts are supposed to go through the center of the trailing arm. I know the 60-62 trailing arms are spaced wider, which is probably why there's another U-bolt on either side. Looks like there is some sort of adapter plate there to fit the later axle.

Looks like that was done instead of putting mounts on the axle. Its so easy to put a later axle in a 60-62, you just weld new saddles right outside of the existing ones...

Thanks for the input. Luckily for me I’m very very limited in my knowledge of this stuff. So I think I may need to find a shop to do it. Any one in SoCal know of a good shop to use?

I put a 65 12-bolt on my 62 frame. Because of the difference in spread, I welded new saddles next to the existing.

The first thing I would do is remove that whole cobbled mess with the u-bolts and shims.Then weld on some new trailing arm mounts in the correct location for your trailing arms. Then you can change the springs and add your drop blocks. The springs and blocks for a '62 are no different than for a '65. You will want the dropped panhard bar assembly for a '60-'62.
