Switch?

I'm curious if someone can tell me what the (broken) switch or sensor is on the top of my SM465 transmission? I know the lower switch is for the back up lights, but what is the one above that one?

I did find this:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=375157

Is this legit info? If so, it would appear as though it is no longer part of a functioning system. (Especially since I am running an HEI distributor) If that's the case I'll just leave it as is. (broken)

Thoughts?
