I do......actually I need to delete the post. I was running into some issues with enough space.......so I thought if I could unload these I would buy some smaller ones.

I ended up just making the bigger ones work.....

Re: How about some pics of bagged 47-59

I hope no one minds if I ask a couple dumb questions about airbag suspension here. I don't want to derail the picture thread. Just figured I'd get most of the experienced air bag guy's answers here.

My truck is currently stripped to the frame and I'm installing a Fatman IFS system and flipping the rearend on top of the leaf springs with a mild C notch. I also removed the rear leaf mounts with the original intent of flipping them on top of the frame but the total amount of lowering may be too low for me - yeah I know, heresy to the airbag crowd ha ha!
I do not intend to "lay frame" and I don't want problems entering driveways, etc. but I would like to cruise a little lower than a status drop will let me and not have to deal with the driveways, speed bumps, etc.
Question #1: If I decided to later, could I just remove the coil springs and shocks and mounts airbags in their place? It SEEMS like that should be possible on the front end.

Question #2: Is it possible to use airbags on the rear with leaf springs? If so, would they only work as a load assist? Or would I need to switch my rear suspension to a four link or similar? I don't intend to use my truck as a truck except I MIGHT want to tow a couple jetski's infrequently. That isn't really important if it's not doable. But for those that have done it, what kit is recommended etc?

Questiin #3: what about Accuair type systems? Unnecessary? Good for what I'm talking about?

Thanks for any advice. -Dan

I am not experienced with air ride setups but you really have to have a set up similar to a coil spring suspension where the bag takes place of the spring.

Dan,

Flipping the rear leaf spring shackle actually raises the truck back up a couple of inches. It is discussed in the No Limit Flip kit thread here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=442586

You can definitely use airbags with leaf springs. If you go through lowrodderchev's build thread that is what he used. You just remove a bunch of the leaves then add the airbags to add back the load handling capabilities. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=601554

For my truck I am planning on a mild c-notch with a 4 link and bags in the rear and just the stock springs in the camaro clip in the front for now.

Re: How about some pics of bagged 47-59

Dan
I was in a similar dilemma (and have the same name). Ran my Fatman front MII for 4 years with springs, and stock rear springs in back, with a few stiff leaves removed. I tow vintage campers and the rear was awful soft so I installed air shocks, but still didn't like the ride. Decided to 4 link it, and bought a kit that included air bags for the rear (TCI). Probly could have just got by with Schrader valves, but then opted for a tank, valves, lines and compressor system from a local merchant ( not an AccuAir). I spent a ton on the parts as it was, but if you want to spend the extra for AccuAir that's your decision.
Well, before I even got it back on the road, decided to convert the front to bags as well. Fatman makes a neat conversion kit to do so. Of course more$$$.
Now...I am not laying the boards. No frame notch, or center cross member and cab notch. Aired out the boards are 4-5" off the ground. That's with urethane bump stops contacting the axle so the frame doesn't . At best bag pressure for ride the boards are 7 1/2" off the ground. I think am will happy with it. Can't answer the question of bags and springs, but a lot of dudes I talked to suggested against it.
Regards
Dan Sutton

Re: How about some pics of bagged 47-59

As Dan said, with the Fatmans air bags on the front are easy. For the rear I run helper bags for extra load, in my case I do not lower the rear but do load it heavy at times and tow on a regular basis. For the most part I run 5 psi in the rear. For the accu-air I'm sure it is a good set-up but it's over kill for most, and your compressor will be running a lot from what others have told me.

Re: How about some pics of bagged 47-59

I have the accuair VU4, I like it but if you're on a budget go with little larry's manual valves. I think the day and age of valve blocks becoming the norm and affordable are right around the corner. just keeps things clean and easy, but expensive.

as for bags on leafs. I'v seen it done and to me is just a band aid. But I never had a set up using it, so who knows might work ok for your driving might not for others.

Coach 25% or 1/4 finished, what ever sounds closer to done
Dan With bag over spring I would be worried about axle wrap.

Ok so it sounds like the consensus is bags with leaf springs is a bad idea. Understood.

Sometimes its worth it in the long run to ante up and get the right things, the first time. You will be much happier with a link instead of leafs. I have had like 6 bagged trucks and have learned that the hard way first hand. It sucks redoing work that you thought you had finished.
