Stolen....

OMG.....It was painful to sign in! Yep, my 68 C-10 was stolen yesterday and probably being sold for parts. It was last seen in Federal Way WA at a park and ride. Has three-on-the tree, straight six with HEI, 3-speed OT transmission, tach dash, power brakes, electric fan. Looks gold, but is a shade or two light than the brown/ green it should be. Not the best for resto for sure, but it was a daily driver for 100 mile commute for 6 years. I hope it comes back in decent shape.....not holding my breath though.Name: Dad's phone 094.jpg

Re: Stolen....

There is nothing worse than finding an empty parking spot where you left your ride . Hopefully it's found in one piece and some teenager took a joyride .

Re: Stolen....

Sorry to hear about this. Sucks to hear. I hope they not only find the truck, but catch the guys who stole it. Wouldn't be pretty if it was my truck and I found out who took it.

As someone who works almost daily with teenagers, I can (unfortunately) almost guarantee it's not kids who took this truck for a joy-ride. Most kids today wouldn't have the slightly clue how to drive a 3OTT, much less hot-wire an old vehicle. Those kids who would know that type of info will have way too much respect for someone else's property to steal it outright, as they obviously would have a mentor in their lives showing them these finer skills. I agree with you Grumpy as it would be nice to see it back in one piece, but I'm guessing whoever took it saw it for the dollar-signs they could sell the parts for.

I was wondering the same thing but who knows....there is a youtube video on how to drive a 3OTT and it's a good one.

I have had a prowler in my yard here lately and he was a brazing one. I am lucky he didn't break in that night as I was gone. Neighbor spotted him and scared him off. I was so angry I was very tempted to "camp out" in the backyard with my 12 gauge and if/when he came back, no matter how many friends he had with him, I'd "punch their tickets." However, I calmed down and I've just been home every single night, no AC be damned. I think he came back a few nights ago and took off when he saw my car parked there. Oh but how I wish he had tried to come in anyway! So I imagine you are as mad as me x100.

Can you check with any security cameras they had there? They may have even used a wrecker or flatbed, it's possible.

My truck is 3OTT and I'm planning on parking it in front of some immobile object (wall, tree, etc.) and putting it in gear towards that object and then removing the shift lever. I plan to chain it to things and use this device called a "brake jack" and keeps the brake from being pressed. I also put in a fuel shut off valve I'll engage as well. My dad is going to help me put in an ignition kill switch too.

I will pray for you sir, I hope you get this back and the bad guys are punished but turn their lives around and repay you and become good guys.

Re: Stolen....

Will keep an eye out.. probably headed out of the country so maybe port cities or borders..

It is my understanding that law enforcement has traffic cameras at key entrance and exit points around most local cities. If they are motivated enough they can run a search through their automated license plate reader camera records. The cameras record each plate of each vehicle passing through the field of view of the camera and they use text recognition software to make the data searchable.

Thanks for letting us know - maybe this site should have a special thread for stolen trucks?

Re: Stolen....

I saw a very similar truck in Sparks, Nevada yesterday afternoon in a Taco Bell drivethru. My kids thought something was wrong because I was staring. I said nope just nice old truck. Not sure but same color. Matt

Re: Stolen....

I put your post and photo up on the local Seattle-area Facebook group "Northwest C10s", which has about 5000 members, so there should be a few eyeballs out there. No one spots these trucks like other owners, so let's hope.

I also posted on the 67-72 C/K Northwest Parts Exchange with 2000 members.

I can probably decode the plate number from the photo, but you might want to let us know what it is. Not many of these, but don't want people calling 911 for every gold-brown pickup!

Re: Stolen....

I'm thinking that potential C10 thieves need to learn they steal one of these and they are going to be dealing with an army - namely us forum members..

So it was taken on July 20th - can you let us know a time frame?

And is this the address where it was taken from?

Address: 31635 23rd Avenue South, Federal Way, WA 98003

Here is a photo of the area:

Maybe go back and look for security cameras along the possible exit routes and interview people whose windows overlook the site?

It was taken from the lot on 348th and 9th....south of that location. To throw more confusion and frustration in, I get reports of friends who say they think they've seen it exiting the freeway near your pictured location and on a flatbed tow truck 40 miles south where I live! I just wish someone could follow it!

Someone on Facebook mentioned "I saw one yesterday that could have been it on a trailer headed south on I-5 near JBLM." but not exactly a lead one could follow up on a day later...

If I saw it, I'd follow it. I've done that to several drunks, one trucker that tried to run me off the road, and one BOL (Be On the Lookout) that came across the scanner, until police were able to get there and effect the stop. Not much chance it would come to WV but oh boy, I wish it would.

It's not illegal to follow someone and reporting a "suspicious vehicle" gives police "probable cause" to effect a stop. I used to do ride-alongs with police and I know that first-hand. *I like to close in until I can memorize the license number and then back off 60 to 100 yards and maintain contact, reporting all changes of location and direction of travel to 911 or highway patrol, depending on what road I am on. *Give it to police in this order: license plate state, number (use phonic alphabet like you learned/would have learned in the military), color, make, and model of vehicle, and anything particular about it (roof rack, etc.). Getting too close spooks the quarry and you don't want to be "chasing" them unless you know it's a kidnapping, then (as far as I am concerned) all bets are off and I'll gladly do jail time if it means stopping that. Of course if I'm sure it's a kidnapping I may be doing a lot more than just following..... ;-) My mother was chased by 5 men on foot once.....I take that kidnapping stuff personal.

I'll keep praying for you brother.
