furd or dudge rims on chevy...

im needing a newer set of plain steel white rims for my 91 3/4t burb axles...I was wanting a little wider rim around 16x7 or 16x8...all I can find new are all black and the cost of blasting and powdercoat rules those out....ive read that furd 3/4t 16x7 van rims will work...and most of those were white and usually cheap...has anybody tried these on a chevy and were there any issues...I know furd has a screwy 165.1 metric bc in the later years but I read its the same as a 8x6.5 bc

my searching has turned up a lot of confusion from different postings as to what fits what....chevy vs dudge vs furd.....

Re: furd rims on chevy...

Ford wheels will fit Dodge and Chevy. Dodge wheels fit chevy but I don't think fit Ford. Chevy fits Chevy. All has to do with the hub bore. Up to early 2000s ford van was still 8x6.5.

Re: furd rims on chevy...

Any 8-lug factory truck wheel that takes hubcaps will fit if it's not a Ford metric wheel from post-96. Ford made this type of wheel longer than the rest and they are 7". If they have Accuride stamped in them they are SAE. People somehow got to be referring to these wheels as Van wheels when in fact they were also F250/F350 wheels. The E-series Vans remained SAE till the end, so maybe that's where they got identified by them. But the latest year vans had no nubs because they either came open or with plastic wheel covers. The wheels outlasted the hubcap.
Ford's center hole is bigger than GM or Dodge, so those wheels won't fit Ford but Fords will fit any other and Dodge will swap with GM.

Subscribed! Going down this path can myself. Removing powdercoat isn't as easy as one might think. I can't believe Wheel Vintiques won't sell an unfinished set.

yeah ^^^^..or white...whats up with that? the rims they sell probably come from overseas already coated...all they do is sellem...im guessing....my blast guy told me 100-150 a wheel for blast and pc....more than the rims cost...

Re: furd rims on chevy...

That black powder coat on Wheel Vintiques must be a primer. It sands to dust just as easy as hardware store spray bomb primer. I am sure it would sandblast straight off these for powder coating. Or, I just scuffed mine up and shot with white paint. That's all my powder coat guy was going to do anyway and I figure I still have powder coat clinging to the metal

Re: furd rims on chevy...

I just picked up a set of E-350 wheels from a 96 van. They were coated grey originally.

Re: furd rims on chevy...

Yeah, Ford put a grey on theirs. I had a sandblaster give up on blasting some gloss black powder coat off a set of wheels. I told them to try a grinder to break through first and that worked. Once you get under it you can blast it off. But that Wheel Vintiques satin black acted just like the coating I had on my headers I had done at a ceramic coating place. I asked a bout black instead of solver and they said they could. I didn't realize that was just a primer. It has held up for years but the headers started getting some rust at the collecctor (since '04). Summer of '16 I did engine work and hit the headers with a cup brush to touch up with VHT. That flat black flew off there like powder. When I did the wheels I scuffed with sandpaper in my hand and it cut right to metal with no effort. I wouldn't leave that on a set even if I wanted black

Re: furd rims on chevy...

sometimes if you put paint strippper on them and put them in plastic bags so the stripper soaks in rather than evaporates. the paint will com off with a sandblaster. Mine actually peeled off in sheets

Just put these wheels with 285/75R16 Cooper Discovers on today, they came off a mid 90's Ford F-350 van. They were factory grey before the powder coat.

Re: furd rims on chevy...

Those look great!

They are 16x7 wheels, so you answered my question in another thread...those tires fit

Is your truck lifted or is that stock height suspension?

7 inch, I had 6 inch before with 265/70 R16 Goodyear RT/S. I really like this new look, just wide enough to fill in the wheel wells

Thank you! Stock suspension as far as I know. The only thing I have on it is a 1/2 spacer on the rear axle to bring the wheels out a little

Re: furd rims on chevy...

Probably the same as most any factory 8-lug wheel. I have been buying wheels for my K/20s for decades and all anyone every needed to know is width and diameter. This stuiff comes from back before things got weird with wheels and tires.

Cali, really dig your truck. Looks great with the vintage narrow beauty rings. I had to put the dark grey F250/350 wheels with 255/85s of my '95 Suburban for a while, when a 35/12.50-16.5 on 9/75 slots went kaboowee! The 285s on 7" are a nice look for these trucks, even with 4" lift. Here is my '72 w/4" lift and 255/85s on 7" Accurides.

Re: furd rims on chevy...

Thanks. I was going to go just a couple inches before I found the set of aluminum slots w/35s...which 4" would be marginally enough for. The tires lasted about 500 miles. One of my better follies to date . I figured the 255/85s or 285/75s, which are my preferred slightly over stock sizes on these trucks, would not look fine with the little extra lift. I see people hemming and hawing over 2" vs 4" and figured what's a couple inches of difference anyway? The F250 highboys never looked so bad with same 7.50-16s, same size as used on K/20s. Funny, I ran bigass tires for years and preferred minimal lift. I liked to see the openings filled as much as possible. Now that I run smaller tires I like the look of a truck up off the tires. Looks healthy and more capable. Ready for anything. But I still don't like excessive lift per tire diameter.

Just for the sake of same truck/same lift (4")/same angle with 255/75-16 on 7" Accurides, 284/75-16 on 8" Wheel Vintiques, and 35/12.50-16.5 on 9.75s comparison, here ya go
