In the parking lot this morning

Is one of these. A Chevrolet Tornado.

Kind of cute. Small.

Looked to have Mexico license plates. I had never heard of it.

Looking at the Chevrolet Mexico website, they also have a 4-door S-10 pickup. Interesting.

Re: In the parking lot this morning

Want to see the coolest pickup truck you can't buy in the U.S.? It's the Chevrolet Tornado. Built off of a front-wheel-drive subcompact sedan platform engineered and manufactured in Brazil, it's powered by a 105-hp, 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Despite its tidy dimensions and less than robust power, it manages to rate a load capacity of more than 1,600 pounds and has useful items like cargo box steps in the fenders, intermittent wipers and tons of accessories.

Re: In the parking lot this morning

I've never seen one, but I've heard warnings when severe weather is imminent

Pretty neat. I think of the Subaru Brat. They all sell those teeny vans in the USA, why not these? 105hp is healthy power for a light vehicle. It sure rolls my Harley right along . In an old VW Bug 100hp would be respectable power. The main thing is what kind of crazy high mileage does it get?

According to Mercedes-Benz...

Quote:
It will be launched in late 2017 under the name Mercedes-Benz X-Class. The key markets will be Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Australia with New Zealand, and Europe.
More info here.

I hope it'll be kind of affordable.

Re: In the parking lot this morning

Looks neat but also looks a little bit "gay."

However, whatever floats one's goat. My C10's engine only rates 115 horses and is much bigger and heavier!

Re: In the parking lot this morning

A bit of a thread revival, but this is how the new Mercedes-Benz X-class looks like in comparison to the concept presented last year.

Unfortunately currently not available in the US.

Re: In the parking lot this morning

I think the Mercedes kind of looks like a Ford or a Toyota with a 3 pointed star in front.

Re: In the parking lot this morning

Have trucks like this crossed a new line same as crossover SUVs? Seems as car-like as it is a truck. Definitely more passenger capacity than cargo. But, that's been the trend for trucks.

Re: In the parking lot this morning

most of the Mercedes built around the world are utilitarian, not luxury. hence why they have a huge cargo van line as well as Lorries (big rigs)

It just happens that the only thing they take the time to import into the USA seem to be the luxury cars (except that small period where Chrysler and Daimler were joined and the vans popped in)

That truck is probably not any more fancy inside than a Toyota. to a better point, in the rest of the world that Toyota pickup will almost certainly have a diesel, making it far more desirable than the ones offered in the states...

I would be interested in the new Duramax in the Colorado and Canyon, its about time. Too bad its just too expensive to justify.... I hope it has success and changes the USA small truck game back towards diesels...
