I think its time for a new roof.

Re: so how big of a mess is your shop?

Mine is pretty bad, and is not helped by the racking full of furniture filling one whole corner. I clean it up after I finish a major project, but it gets messy again at an amazing rate.
I made the mistake of setting up a folding table "briefly" so I could paint some parts on it, it has been there for over a month now and is completely covered in junk so I can't even use it as a table without moving a few dozen things.

Yeah, the patina look doesn't really work on the roof does it. It's going to cost $10K for a new one. Every time I get enough money saved up to fix it something else pops up that needs to be fixed (engine replacement for my DD, kitchen appliances crapped out, wife's car self destructed and needed replacing). Good thing I live in CA where it never rains...

Mine is 30 x30 I haven't been able to drive a vehicle inside it in a couple of years. It has a 1964 MG convertable and a non op 300 utility farmall tractor . several engines tools welders tire machines air compressor ect. I have a 1600 sqft block building attached and its crammed full also. I do my wrench turning outside under a canopy. We are currently installing a engine in a 70 chevelle. one bay of the canopy is full of stuff also. a motorcycle with a side car, engines & lawnmowers.

Its pretty much a drag car. small block engine stick trans. no interior except for the bucket seats. tach oil pressure & temp guage & just enough wiring to make it run and charge the battery. I blew the spider gears in the stock rearend. So was going to move the rear leaf springs inside the frame and install a ford 9 inch rearend. pretty solid body not much rust other than surface rust. its not for sale.

Re: so how big of a mess is your shop?

When I built my shop 25 yrs ago my friend pleaded with me to go higher. I thought why?, until I bought a lift. I recently opened up the ceiling which gave me a 13'6" height....PerfectName: Jan 18 2013 025.JPG

I'd make room for a soft serve machine like that, the mess would be cups and spoons laying around!

After........ YIKES!
Partly because I pulled stuff away from the walls to tile.
Partly because I'm messy.

Re: so how big of a mess is your shop?

In addition to wrenching on my personal toys, I own a landscape contracting co that I started a few years ago. We are so busy in the summer and I'm so disorganized, the 14x24 shop behind my house became crammed full of crap I just threw in. My 2 car carport was the same way. Last week, me, one of my workers, and my neighbor who is currently storing his S10 V8 conversion project in my shed so the city doesn't hassle him further ( but just while he builds the engine) spent the entire week cleaning up the shop and carports. It's incredible the amount of room we made. Compressor, generators, pressurewasher, drill press, table saw, grinder, band saw, vise, and work bench all are now accessible. Just have to roll his S10 out to use it lol. Meanwhile, my Jeep Scrambler, x2 '63 C10 and GMC sit outside and my '71 El Camino gets 1/2 the carport. I'm considering getting a 2 car aluminum "temp" carport to put the Jeep and C10 under until I find a real shop to rent or buy.
