6-lug stuff was 7/16" studs, 5-lug went to 1/2".

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10

I just hope it rides as good as it looks.

Thanks Alan, I am really enjoying this build. It's much different than my previous builds, the shop space, frame off, the quality of aftermarket parts and last but not least my bolt bins from Fastenal. Man me and my Dad where the king of the coffee cans full of bolts....

The plan is coming together, looking everywhere for wheels and tires, looks like a LS3 with T56 Magnum is a very good possiblity.

No, maybe that's the problem. Not looking for classic more late model.

I really like these (Boss 338), can get 8" front and 9.5" on rear.

Those wheels look like a nice choice. I'm speechless over the LS3. BTW I changed your thread name as requested.

You will need more than 9.5-10 inches of rubber on the ground with that beast of an engine. BTW, nice shop.. It is almost as nice as mine!!!! LOL, no seriously, LAUGHING OUT LOUD!!! Nice build and with the sentimental value the selling price should be in the "unobtainable" range....

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

I've been watching your build, your shop has much better lighting and ventilation . I have already told my kids, there will be no selling of this truck. This build has been good therapy for my Mom she can't wait to take a ride in it.

As I get older I'm more interested in 30 to 75 than 0 to 60 I hope it will hook up for that???

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

My brother sold my grandpa's 63 GMC about 3 years ago to a group of metal salvaging pirates that happened by the house one day. I didnt talk to him for a year. If I could have found it then I would have used it, but it was probably used to pay the federal debt to China.... I bet it has been turned into steel rebar for China's interstate system. Boy there is some salt in a wound... But since I couldnt get it I settled for a replacement.

Oh and you should be able to do 30-75 sideways...

Re: Mesquite 1966 C10 - LS3 W/Air Ride

My Dad called me and asked me if I wanted the truck before he sold it. We were about to have our 4th child and I needed a bigger house so I told him to sell it so he could get a late model truck. That one cost me big time, but water under the bridge now.

Yes I am, I have several pieces of furniture in the house that I made from Mesquite, it's a beautiful wood with a clear finish, nice redish brown color. Also the wood is very hevy so maybe it will help with traction . My back yard is full of Mesquite Trees!

I looked into getting Mesquite wood for my truck, I just love the red-ish color when it is dried, besides it is almost indestructible and heavy as heck, but what I found was it is too expensive for me to buy ready to sand and finish.

I buy mine unfinished and run it through my planer and joiner (tuff on blades), price is not too bad unfinihsed but still a pricey wood. I also like hickory another heavy hard wood, my kitchen cabinets are knotty hickory.
