Not sure how I missed your update earlier, but I like your color choices. The cab looks great. I'm anxious for your update with sunlight pictures.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

OK Finally for the update...I have been working like crazy trying to get this truck going. My painter told me he was going to "jam" the cab so I could start putting it back together. On Monday I showed up and the whole cab was painted! I was super stoked. With some help I got the cab set on the frame and bolted down. I then spent the next five days working (very slowly but steady) wiring and plumbing for a/c. Here are a few pictures of what I have going on.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

That new floor pan is looking good with the undercoating on it and painted! It didn't take long for me to get the cab set on and pull my main harness through the clutch rod hole and go to town.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

The dash is looking good. Getting some of the easy stuff back on and the very important dash pad on (I learned from previous builds this needs to go on as early as possible!). Also got the windshield wiper motor and arms panted/installed.

I took a couple of pics from under the dash looking up to show the clearance from the pc/fuse block to the back of the digital gauge cluster. Also a fun picture showing my dome light working

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

It took me an entire morning to map out where I wanted to put in the a/c bulkhead. I was super nervous about cutting into the freshly painted firewall and about the correct position for it. I decided this location would be out of the way and give me a little more wiggle room on the inside of the cab. I then modified the heater hose lines to fit better and the inside a/c lines. (Vintage Air Sure fit IV kit). I got to play with some sweet crimping tools. Man do the right tools make you look like a pro!

fun tools and a shot from when I cranked it up. Also got the brake booster cleaned up, painted and mounted. I got the brakes bled while I was at it.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

I rebuilt the vent windows that I had from a parts truck. I used OO steel wool and a air buffing kit to make them shine (as much as I could). They are not perfect, but look really good for not much money. I installed all new rubber and original style rivits. These are the second set I have rebuilt. It took me a bit more time than I thought it would but I am happy with the results.

It was a cold day so this was a great in the garage project

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

a couple more from the tear down. One of my original vent windows had the famous broken post so I used another one I had bought (knowing I had this issue). I unfortunately do not have the finished product pictures but maybe I can get some of those tomorrow.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

Dood... Slow down your making me dizzy! Ok just went back and reread, missed the part about the last 5 days.

Ok in all seriousness, setting that cab on the concrete like that and then rolling it back to undercoat and paint the bottom would have scared the daylights out of me but i'd be stoked to be where your at. Its looking super nice!

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

I see a bar-b-que invite coming your way in the not too distant future - price of admission is bring that crimping tool with you I'm planning the same AC/heat setup for mine, but hope to get it mocked in before I paint. You are definitely scooting right along on this. Wish I still had your energy to get that much done in a week! It's looking great!

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

I used the original style rivets to redo the windows. To help I used two pieces of angle iron back to back which gave me a good solid hammering surface. While I had the windows apart, I cleaned up the rusty areas and shot it with some rust preventer. Probably not as nice as some but I am pleased with them.

Re: 1970 One Owner Short Step

I grabbed some scrap metal and made a pedal adapter for my dbw pedal. not as nice as some but it works for me and no one will really be paying attention to it anyway

I also took a couple of shots of what will be sitting behind my gauge cluster...what a mess, but I know where everything is and most of it is labled...still looks pretty crazy back there!

If you get tired of messing with that plastic pedal, you can upgrade it to a 2005+ corvette pedal which looks very similar to the stock 71-72 truck CST pedal. All you have to do is swap two wires on your pedal plug.

I got the doors and fenders on and fitted. Talk about a nerve racking process. Every time I have to handle fresh paint it makes me sweat.
