Jack hold down color

I’m at the point to paint and install the spring jack hold down near the rear inside tire carrier on a 71 Blazer. What was the correct color to paint it from the factory? Black.

Here's a photo taken from a survivor. At least on this example the components appear not to be painted at all: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...93&postcount=7

Re: Jack hold down color

Thanks for the reply Pete. I think I will powder coat it silver to simulate raw metal and will show up a little since my carpet is black.

Re: Jack hold down color

I had mine clear zinc plated and I'll bet it's shiner than it ever was new. Also now that I look closely the spring appears black. If I tried again I'd soak it in Evaporust - that might bring back an appearance close to new. Powdercoat would look nice.

Re: Jack hold down color

I have two sets and soaked them in evaporust. Remnants of body color paint were on them. Don't know if both the vehicles they came on had been repainted or were painted at the factory. I'll probably paint the set I'm going to use satin black.

Re: Jack hold down color

Thanks for posting. Is the rear bracket painted? The front brackets are the same color as the floor pan with the rare exception being St LouisHighlander's that had white paint on the step face (and rear wheel tubs) in which case the these have white overspray. The rear bracket and spring look to be unpainted on the example in the above link.

Re: Jack hold down color

Yes all the pieces including the springs were painted in the two sets I have. Most of the paint sloughed off when I wiped them down after pulling them out of the evaporust, but you can see it
