Rubber bumper paint

Some BONEHEAD taged my wife today in the 92 Olds (everyones OK). What type of paint is used to paint the rubber bumpers? Any other tips? Also an excuse to get a spray gun. What types do you paint gurus recommend for all around automotive painting. What is the best, siphon or gravity feed?

The paint used on rubber body parts is the same paint that is used on the rest of the car but it has a flexible additive put in it. Gravity feed guns are the best all around as far as I am concerned but everyone has their preference.

Oh yea....can you shoot primer with a gravity gun? I have heard conflicting opinions.

denny, i use a siphon feed for primer,and a gravity hvlp for top coats,but i've heard of useing the gravity for both.i think it depends on your viscosity of the primer,a.e. maybe the thinner primers are more suited for the gravity guns. iv'e tried dp primers in my gravity gun,but it just doesn't atomize right.the finishing primers seem to work pretty good tho. if i had to buy just one,i'd get a siphon feed, but then again,i'm kinda old school.hope it helps.bob67cst.

Bob, How about a good gravity gun for topcoat and a cheep siphon feed for primers.
Will the in expensive guns shoot primer well?

Shot black epoxy primer with a cheap gravity feed from the paint store. It'll work great as long as you have the correct tip for primer. Anything smaller than 1.8 should be too fine for primer. Some guns you can buy different tips for so you can shoot bc/cc as well as primer out of the same gun. I suggest buying one cheap gun with a 1.8 tip for the primer and buy another (same model) with a 1.3 or so tip (both gravity feed)for the basecoat. Are you going to use single-stage or basecoat/clearcoat?
