Were to find GM OEM/Hurst shifter parts for 81 C10 ?

I have the factory A833 chrysler based 4 speed with over drive manual with the factory, built for GM by hurst, 4 speed shifter from a 81 chevy C10 truck installed in my 1970 C10. This shifter arm does not bolt on to the shifter, but rather is held into the shifter by some kind of rectangle shaped insert made of plastic and metal. It is worn and cracked and makes the shifting pretty sloppy.

Does anyone know where I could get that part ? Also could use a new 1/4 special carriage bolt that goes on top pivot. Thanks.

Try Hurst for parts. I fixed mine by drilling through the arm to match the bolt holes in the side of the housing. I get a little more vibration, but it shifts a lot better (I'm a shadetree, remember).

How do you like that transmission? I have one I want to install in my 84 behind a 350. Hurst will rebuild the shifter for around $90. You can find the details on the Mr. Gasket website.

I am looking at using a Hurst Super Competition Shifter for my installation.

As far as how do I like that tranny, well I think it's the coolest "bolt in" you can do. The gears seem spaced about like a regular 3 speed (don't remember ratios right now) and then you have the over drive (that is .73). I have 3.73 rear gears, and driving down the road in 3rd engine sounds pretty busy. Shift into 4th OD and that is the same as a 2.73 rear gear. The 3.73 rear gears make the ratios seem closer than if you had the same ratios in a 3 speed with say 3.07 rear gears. A regular non OD tranny would have closer ratios, but I figure a 700R4 auto would be geared about the same as my manual. Not a race truck setup, but perfect for most spirited steet driving and general use IMHO. And it apears to be a rather large and heavy duty tranny, they put them behind 440 mopars and they lived.

It's called a "bayonet-style" stick. Try calling Summit and ask if they can get these Hurst part numbers.

Metal clips - 1263705
Rubber Isolators - 1613706

I looked but couldn't find the top pivot bolt. What I did find was a very long grade 8 carriage bolt. I cut the bolt down to length and cut a short thread to match the original.....as good as new!

Kopper, thanks , yeah bayonet style, thats what it is, thanks for jogging my memory, those parts numbers will really help, and if I can find a grade 8 carrriage bolt I think my shifter will be much better, I can alway send it in a last resort, but I think this would be much cheaper, as that will fix most of it.
