Any safecrackers out there ??

My house has a floor safe which would be really cool except I dont have the combo to open it.
I never knew it was there until we had new carpet put in and the carpet guy found it.

My place was prevoiusly owned by an investment company in Taiwan so I have no one to ask.

Any way to crack these things, I talked to a locksmith and he wanted $250 to open it....I dont want it open that much.

I keep thinking maybe it's full of gold coins or something, but with my luck probably the only thing in it is the combo

Re: Any safecrackers out there ??

Hmmmm, well the safe is worth a pretty penny in it's own, jmho,
I would luv to find something like that in my floor, it could have
cash in it, or just dust, call around, someone can do it for ya, I
would then try, if all else fails, a lil block of C4, it will open then

maybe try to contact the manufactor of the safe, with proof of ownership and the serial number they may help you.. I had one once in my business, when I bought it,, $200 was what I paid for the lock to be opened, I'm pretty sure that is what he did, was just sent in the serial numbers?

my dad used to, eyesights too far gone now to keep it up though. the easiest way is to drill it but you have to know exactly where to drill.

Re: Any safecrackers out there ??

I am sure you could locate a few fellow upstanding citizens there in SoCal to open it for you, trouble is I am sure they would come back later and the open empty floor safe is all that would be left in your home.

that would be a long shot because of how easy it is to change the combo on the safe, most safes are custom set to the customers requested combo at the time of instillation too.

Got get 25 pounds of dry ice from Wally world......place on safe to "pre-chill",
Get 5 gallons of liquid Nitrogen and pour on lock slowly.
Hit lock with big hammer while wearing safety glasses.

I'd spend the $250 to open it. It would be nice to store important stuff in like birth certificates, car titles. ect. With my luck though it would have a human head or something in it.

Re: Any safecrackers out there ??

Yeah, if it's a real safe, the combination is changeable. I change the safe combinations here at work all the time (as people come & go). The serial number *probably* won't help, but it is possible that it's a model that doesn't have a customer-changeable combination.

You could try the process of elimination. Remember, on safes you turn to the left first (four full turns to clear it). Probably has a 100 number dial, so you only have 1,000,000 possible combinations... You are going to own this house for the rest of your life, right?

Just another pointer... My brother ran in to the same situation. After scratching our heads, I found that whoever put the safe in had put the combination in code on the breaker box. Made it look like they were numbers to something else, and also had them in reverse order. Maybe you could scout around and see if there is something somewhere in the house like that.

Buy a good stethascope and sit down and go through the proper motions of turning the dial slowly. Listen to the tics until you here the loudest click then write that number down and then go the opposite way to the loud click, write that number down and then opposite to the last loud click and it should open. I've never done this before but it sounded good.

Re: Any safecrackers out there ??

I'd rather put $250 into some Hedman Headers than a safe..But then again it is getting to be a problem tripping over all this money laying around...and those gold bars really smart when you hit them with your big toe.

Maybe it's 18-77-78,OK prolly not

lol curiosity would have the better of me,and I would be on the floor with a stethescope, screwdriver, prybar, glass of coke, magnifying glass,BFH,whatever else I thought I might need and $250 just in case.

Where else ya gonna hide a 6 pack that no one else can get it?!?

Phillips would only remove the handle you pick the door up with....here's a quick google link with showing how the door lifts up.

Re: Any safecrackers out there ??

Maybe all of us who are curious to what it contains should send in $25.

It's true that the screwdriver would only remove the handle. Safe companies aren't that dumb.

By the way, if you've ever seen the insides of a real safe's combination lock, you'd know that the stethescope trick is fairly silly. At least in the safes at my work (the doors to the safe are 7' tall by 4' wide) there is a brass ring that prevents any 'tics'. However, this safe may not have that particular anti-safecracker device.

That safe looks like a small (12" X 12" x 8") safe, and probably doesn't have a user-changeable combination. Personally, I would get ahold of the company and give them the serial number. By the way, I wouldn't post the serial number on the internet. Anyone who knows where you live might be able to get your combination now.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but I'd bet a million bucks that that thing is empty, or contains something of absolutely no value. Whoever knew the combination to that safe didn't leave it full when they sold the house. I personally would be willing to pay the $250 just to have a useable safe, but only after I removed the pictures I posted on the internet containing my serial number and after I called the company and asked for the combination.

Another thought...

I don't know how property is transferred in Calif, but here, our county recorder has all the information on all the previous owners. If Calif is the same, go to whoever records property deeds and they should be able to tell you the names of all the previous owners clear back to the very first one.

Just out of curiousity, I browsed their website and found this:

Quote:
For security reasons we do not give out combinations to anyone that is not part of the industry.
Looks like you have to pay someone to 'give you the business'.

Re: Any safecrackers out there ??

those safe doors are about 10-12 inchs around, about 6 inchs deep and weighs about 25-30 pounds. the combo is easily changed with the right key, my dad used to have about 50 of those heads laying around in various setups.
