Re: My 70 LWB build thread

Here are a few update pics. Not alot happening just alot of parts collecting for winter work. I got the pulley set up done it's all billlet from Zoops, power steering gear and pump, working on a fuel cell and started running brake lines and fuel lines. I also got all my cab pieces including the Goodmark complete floor with supports. I waited 3 months to get the floor with supports I guess it was the first official shipment of these at the end of July. The floor looks like a nice piece. 53sparks and I picked up a 68 for a $100 that I am going to use the hood and grille from to get the 68 look. Still hunting for rust free oem doors or I may go with a new set.

Fuel cell is from Summit Racing (generic drag cell) I will most likely have to move the fill hole in it. I'm not quite sure where though. Some kind of bed fill.

Don't mean to be nosy but wondering where you purchased the floor and how much it set you back. (I see you can get it direct from Goodmark @ $500 but wondered if there was a less expensive source.) I already bought the floor pans and supports for my cab, not knowing the full floor was in production, but would consider going that route and saving myself a LOT of work.

Re: My 70 LWB build thread

Wow, this thread really opened my eyes to a few projects that Ive been thinking about. Excellent build and documentation, its gonna be SWEET!

I have a few questions.

1) Your frame stiffeners- Can you give me the dimensions of them? (height/thickness). I can just order the c-channel myself and cut it down - or I may be able to find some at my dad's metal shop. I've been meaning to do this for a long time.

2) Your trailing arms- Im converting my 72 swb from leafs to trailing arms pretty soon. Im pretty sure I can make my own cross member and arms, although all I know about this type of suspension if what I have seen in pics.
Could you give me the dimentions of the arms you made, as well as how far from the rear of the frame the cross member should be? How do you go about securing the rear to the top of the arms? Only a U bolt?
It seems pretty self explanatory about welding the spring perches to the top of the rear end, but what does the perch on the underside of the frame look like?
Lastly, where are you going to mount your shocks?

Sorry, I know im requesting a lot of information. I'd be hapy to paypal you a few bucks for your troubles! It will be a few months before I tackle this, I just want to start getting information together.

Thanks man! Its really appreciated!

Re: My 70 LWB build thread

I guess I should read a little more often. The floor was $500, the fuel cell is from Summit and the sending unit came with it. I put this project on hold last year when I bought a 65 Impala last fall that was in pretty decent shape and did a little to that and have been driving it this summer on and off for fun.
Then I found a 69 GMC that I am working on now.

Re: My 70 LWB build thread

I figured I better update this build. I finally got back to working on this. The motor and trans in the earlier pics I robbed out of it and put in the Impala. Now I rebuilt another 350 and got that set in the frame with a new trans. I put a few more goodies in this engine so maybe a couple more horses. I also got some 20" wheels and tires. I welded in the full floor that I had sitting in the shop and brought the cab to the media blaster yesterday to get cleaned up. He was going to blast it with crushed glass. Next step I will spray the underside of the cab with bedliner and get that set on the frame. At least then it will start to resemble a truck again. here are a couple pics.

It was like sparking an old flame! I was getting sick of working on the cab because it was taking so long. After it was set in place all the hours of working on it were forgotten.

Thanks, I sure get alot of comments on the wheels. They are MB Wheels from www.tires.com. They only come in 20x8.5 for the 5 lug the tires are Hankook Ventus. Pretty cheap though these are the machined/gray finish and were $195 each. They also have chrome for $225 each. It seems like the cheap chrome wheels look like cheap chrome wheels.
