Project "flip that truck or else!"

PROJECT "FLIP THAT TRUCK OR ELSE" aka polished turd

OK, so the wife didn't really use those terms when i told her that I was picking up another truck, but she might as well have... 60 days is the plan... Purchased the truck on 4 Mar and plan to sell no later than cinco de mayo.

Noticed a local Craigslist ad for a 68 C-10 for $1,000... Sounds good right? Then I get pics in the email and it's a 69... Lay talked of issues with husband, truck stuck in third gear, has four kids now and can't drive it, needs the money kinda story. So after a few emails and phone calls she has some potential buyers and they all fall through. I make her an offer and she says "come get it". Ok now is the time that I better mention this plan to the wife

So I pick up the truck, rented a trailer and got it home. Still in third, husband converted the column shift to the floor and now it has issues. After getting it home I played with the shifter a little an voila!!! It's shifting fine... cool, test drive time! I think it's a 307 but I need to run the numbers.

Pros:
New carb
New coil
New wires
New MSD box (why??)
New water pump
New alternator
New valve covers
Clean aftermarket tailgate
New cab mounts and clean supports
Newer tires
Clean title
all original except rear rollpan and white paint.
New rear slider
Nice seat
new high flow fuel pump (why?)
PA inspected in Jan

Cons:
rust above the windshield
was stuck in third
backfires through carb under acceleration
rims a little rusty
Cut dash
drive door shot
missing driver side trim
overspray on fenders from PO's engine bay paint job
no power steering or brakes
4 wheel drums

Plans are to polish the turd, get it running nice and resell... maybe see $700+ profit with little time or money investment...

You drove home in third?

Hella good torque from these old trucks.

But how did the PO not think to mask the engine bay off?

I winched it onto the trailer and drove it off the trailer in third... still smoked the clutch a little...oops. the engine bay?? who knows what goes through people's mind.

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

thanks... it's one of those trucks that you could beat around in for another decade but you better not tear into her cause she won't go back together... rust in all the normal areas, rad support, inner fenders, trailing arms...

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

we'll see... I think I need to adjust the timing due to the small backfiring in the carb. I might also pull all the unnecessary MSD items off and put a cheap HEI on it.

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

worked on the turd again today. found that most of the oil pan bolts were finger tight at best, hence the oil spill under the truck!

Little elbow grease and the rims were looking better, atleast the pass side is... I still need to get some driver side trim and polish the rims on that side too...

Driver door is shot for sure, it's going on craigslist tonight to see how the reaction is...

very true, it would be a good work beater truck but the roof needs fixed to make it an "all-weather" truck...

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

I think that the speedometer cable was bound up in the floor shifter linkage. I'm still adjusting it so that it sits right with the seat and dash. They had first gear going under the dash.

Re: Project "flip that truck or else!"

MSD box removed, Blaster 2 coil removed, distributer removed... installed mallory HEI (off my 68 since it's too big) last night... still back fires through the carb under acceleration. Going to check timing tonight and vacuum leaks...
