1996 oil sending unit location
Where is the oil sending unit located on the 96 5.0 vortec engine? Engine runs smooth and quiet, but oil pressure is reading scary. I guess I'll start here.

I don't have a V-8, so I can't answer your question. On the older V8's, I know you know where the sending unit is located and I am assuming that you have looked in the same place and can't find it, right? Hopefully, someone will jump in and tell you what you want to know.

Re: 1996 oil sending unit location
yeah I know where the old sending units are on the rear of the motor. My Haynes book said it's located above the oil filter. I'll have to jack it up and see tomorrow.

Re: 1996 oil sending unit location
Your 96 (Vortec) should be just to the dirver side of the dist. The one over the filter doesn't exist on the newer engines. They were on the TBI engines that utilized two, one for the gauge and one for the fuel pump circuit. It should be mounted on a 90 degree fitting at the end of a pipe nipple. Make sure to use a backup wrench on the 90, and there actually is a special socket that will fit over the sending unit, but you can also just use a regular socket or whatever fits.

Re: 1996 oil sending unit location
I have found the Haynes manuals to be more geared toward the TBI engines although there is some info on the Vortecs. I also have a Chilton and it is more up to date with the Vortec's/OBDII info and troubleshooting.

Hey thanks I'll be picking up a Chilton book for future references.
