The plaid valve covers are actually pretty rare. I couldn't quote you any figures such as how many were actually produced/used but I do know that now it is a pretty rare item. I have them on my '63 and I know of atleast one other member with them.

the customtrim around the door, it isn't super rare, but it is rare to find it pulled off in good shape and not all buggered up.

The valve covers are nothing to get wet about. Sure there not common but that engine sucks. Now the trim on the other hand has been really hard to find a clean salvagable set. Found mine now Im never gonna let em go. Are they aluminum? I thought stainless. Either way I like em.

Re: GMC 1963 v6 plaid valve covers anyinfo???

check out this chev/gmc hybrid,
the trim is some sort of aluminium/alloy and most I have seen are dented up.
I want a set of those plaid covers for my wall!

Re: GMC 1963 v6 plaid valve covers anyinfo???

sorry my intentions were not to put them on here for sale but to ask about them and get an idea how rare they are and get some history is it ok to post some pics of them for people to see!!?? i do not want to have the post deleted!!!

it is actually to bad but i will probably put them on ebay to sell not here i am a member of alot of forums and this is the only one that charges to sell parts i would think the forum would want more forum members to connect and get parts to and from each other to support the chevy truck hobby just my opinion and this is in no way trashing the forum i like being a member thanks

There's someone on the board who has that engine and valve covers as their avatar. And, they posted a video of the start up after he rebuilt it. I'm surprised he hasn't seen this yet. I can't remember who it is.

Wow. Some of us happen to love that engine very much. It is a very dependable and strong engine that was way over engineered to last forever. If you don't like GMC engines, don't post in the GMC topics.

As for the guy with the plaid covers in his avatar, that is Jake Groby.

As you can see he asked a few questions that I answerd to the best of my knowlege and my experience with the parts. I didnt care for the engine, that is an opinion. You like your engine, that is an opinion. I will post any info/experiences I have had with my GMC good or bad. If you take offense, that is not intent but I also dont care.

4dranch,
Parts were a pain in the @$$ to get. If I did get them the were expensive and had to be ordered. The gas mileage was horrible and no power. Try finding performance parts for this engine, you cant. Im not talking a few carbs either. I mean c'mon a BB V6, why? Some of these things I mentioned may be from it being so old but I have delt with other engines just as old with less issues.

gostranger,
I hope I have answered your question as you ment it to be answered. If I havent I appologize.

Okay, 'nuff said. Let's not turn this into a squirtin' contest. Let's keep the discussion to the valve covers and the trim, okay?

Do you have a pic of the stainless trim for the windshield? I always thought that the chrome was a plastic strip in the rubber....

Not sure how rare the clock is....I know the 62-66 dash bezels had the casting for them though on either side of the speedo and water/fuel gauges.

+1. I belong to eight forums (motorcycle, automotive, hot rod & truck), and this is the only one that charges for classifieds. I can see charging a fee for vendors, but the charging the occasional used part listing by a private party is a bit greedy.
