Digital Cameras

For the computer guys:

Our computer is about 4.5 years old and I want to get a digital camera now that our scanner is dead. We don't have a USB port on our computer. We did buy a keyboard a while back that needed a USB port and we were able to buy an adapter. Can the same be done for digital cameras? Also, I have seen digital camera docking pads. Are these things needed to get the pictures on the computer?

Thanks for any help.

Although it is slower, many of the camera's still come with the adapters to use the serial port to upload your pictures. Just make sure you double check to see what the camera is capable of. You probably won't need anything extra. If you go really classy, I saw one A Sony) it has the small rewriteable CDRWs that can be read in your CD or CD Burner.

Plus, since you already have an adapter for your key board, you can get a USB hub...think of it as an extention cord...one male plug, and 3 or more female plugs.

Actually, I'm 99.9% sure you can't use a PS2->USB adapter for anything other than keyboards.

You can, however, buy a USB add-in card for roughly $10. That's the way to go, really.

Alot depends on budget to me.....

My experience was the ones that downloaded took too long.

My dad put out the big bucks for the CD type, was disappointed with it.....and went back to using his old backup camera....

I prefer the sony with floppy disk.....takes on average of 20+ pictures on one 1.44 floppy....makes film easier to come by.

Has a zoom lens.

I've taken over 5000 pictures with it.

Before I disassemble some things I use it for a reminder.....pics are clear and sharp.......

eBay has alot of the Sony Mavica cameras.............

Good thing about the floppy cam, if you are at some one else's house taking pics, you can load them right into there computer with no software or anything.
