I think you will find the C-20 to weigh in a little more....tween 4600-4800 curb weight . 3990 should be about right on for the C-10.....crazyL

Hmmm...I'll just say 5,000 to be safe. What a pig. I liked the 4,000 lb. idea better.

Re: How much does it weigh?

Nope. C10 (8ft fleet) weight for 1971 is 3605 lbs, and the C20 is 386 lbs heavier.

Here's a source for you:http://www.oldride.com/library/1971_chevrolet_c10.html

The perception that trucks are piggish, overweight brutes is only a result of the past two (maybe three) generations of American vehicles which, due to incessant government nannying, are increasingly heavy and plain huge. Ours, however, ain't that way.

Re: How much does it weigh?

For the most part I could care less about the weight, but I may be hauling one 1,100 miles across the country this summer and I want to make sure I have the right vehicle for the job.

Re: How much does it weigh?

Just going by scale weights, I had a 71, 8' step that consistantly went 4040 empty with a 220 lb driver. The longhorn goes 4240, empty with driver(and 1/2 tank of fuel). Now if you have seen this old longhorn, its pretty stripped...no front bumper, inner tubs,no heater or air,no door glass,& 1/2 ton suspension under it. I am sure that I have shaved 6-700 lbs off the weight, & it still scales within 100 lbs of the listed weight in the chart?????? crazyL

Re: How much does it weigh?

My 70 GMC C2500 weighed 5250# with me in it at the metal place. I'm 180#. It was an 8' big block truck with disc conversion and figure a couple of hundred pounds in the aluminum tool box. Power steering and factory air. Also had class IV receiver hitch, 10" sub and amp under the seat as well as a rubber bed mat. It all adds up. My truck was a 7500/7500 truck. (7500 GVW as equipped with 7500 being max for the platform.) I've had 3 different '70 GMC 2500's. Small block 4 speed Longhorn was a 6600/7500 truck and six cylinder 3 speed stepside was a 6200/7500 truck. GVW has nothing to do with how much it actually weighs, but how much the total combined truck and load should be for the truck as it is equipped.

Re: How much does it weigh?

My 71 SWB C10's with a small block weight is 3905 lbs with a full tank of fuel. There is also a couple add on acessories that would weigh about 125 lbs all together. Why is there not any fiberglass for these trucks?

Re: How much does it weigh?

According to the oldride site, the 4x4's were only about 200-300 lbs heavier. I would have guessed much more than that. Think of what the np205 alone weighs, plus you have extra member(s), heavier hubs, typically heavier tires, steering, and driveshaft.

Re: How much does it weigh?

I was required to weigh mine (unladen and no driver) last November in order to register it in California because it came from out of state. I put it on a moving company's scale and their Weighmaster issued me a certificate ... 4400 lbs.

These are the items I could think of that could affect the unladen weight of my truck as compared to others:
Plate steel step bumper with a heavy receiver in the rear
2 1/4" dual exhaust
16" aluminum wheels
Near empty gas tank
Power steering
Factory air (compressor not installed)
Coil springs in rear with the G50 heavy duty option
Spare tire was installed

I hope this is a helpful addition to the weighty information already posted.

Re: How much does it weigh?

Had my K20 weighed many years ago -- 5300# empty (can't recall if I was sitting in it or not).

For the record, before shoveling out the dirt, it weighed 11,300#. Try that on 45 miles of mountain highway. Never again.

Re: How much does it weigh?

Its a mutt but its all stock parts. 1971 K10, 4x4, small block, th350, NP205. I weigh 165 pounds and was in the drivers seat when my tear weight was 4860 pounds.
Gas tank was NOT empty.
Rounding off a bit lets just say a 1971 K10 weighs 4700 pounds.

Re: How much does it weigh?

looking at the old ride site, im wondering are those dry weights? ie no fluids? and i don't believe they include any accessories. just the basic platform for each model, so any accesories will add weight and fast. just my thought as my 72 gmc c25 w/292I6 sm465 rear coil springs, manual steering no accessories weighs i believe 42-4300lbs(got receipt somewhere...) with me in it with 1/2 tank a gas im 160, so old rides spec 3991+160=4150lbs plus gas and fluids and tire weight?(other then stock size are radial heavier then bias?) seems pretty close.

Good chance that's true. They list a LWB '71 K20 as 4,156 lbs, and my '72 K20 weighed 5300 lbs. Discounting my weight (I may have been sitting in the truck when it was weighed), that's still a thousand pounds difference. I'm not sure my truck's V8, AT, PS, A/C, Barden bumper, and twin saddle tanks would quite add up to 1,000 lbs.

I'd say that was right on the money. With me and my dog in it leaving the dump I run right under 4300 lbs across the scales.

You can usually check by going across the truck scales at a truck stop and if you don't get a weight slip it shouldn't cost anything.

Re: How much does it weigh?

If you have a '71 C20 that weighs 4000 lb, it has been on a serious diet or you should find new scales.
The image below is from the 1971 GM Heritage page.
A C20, V8, fleetside curb weight is 4162, which includes oil, water and gas.
That is with a 307, 3 spd on the column, no rear bumper of any style, five wheels, but only four tires, one muffler, one tail pipe, and it does include two door mirrors. My '67 was only allowed one mirror!
Other than front bumper, two fenders, hood and tail gate, anything else on the truck is going to kick it up to a more realistic 4600 lbs.
