Medium gloss or semi gloss as some call it, not gloss.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

That is what i was thinking, that I would use the medium, or 60% is what they call it.

It resembles that fresh from the factory look.

Thanks for the reply

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

I did not take a picture, kinda boring, just cleaning the Frame from the trans cross member forward. I am probably 80% done. with the frame clean & degrease.

Then i started cleaning the firewall, I had some real trouble keeping focused on the Frame or the firewall.

So I switched to the Clutch Pedal, pull out the clutch pedal rod that goes through the firewall, i hope they make a rubber plug to fill the hole for the clutch in the firewall.

Got the clutch rod out, But I could not seem to get the clutch pedal out, slide the clutch pedal and shaft most of the way out but it looked like the speedo cable was in the way and not letting it come all the way out.

I had to push myself today, i just wasn't into it.

I did pull the Hood spring mounting brackets off I will take them to the powder painter on Monday, I think he will start on my stuff this week.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

oh yea! I took the Heater core out, and found at least 3-4 hand fulls of leaves in there.

There was at least 6-8 hand fulls of leaves and pine needles in the vent opening, I may have to put a screen over the vent to keep out all the crap that can get in there.

Also pulled off the Brake master today, but i wasn't that into doing much.

OK so I guess i did do a few things, just not anything fun.

Smile Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Thanks chuck3026,

That's what i need to keep my motivation going, I will post some pics maybe tomorrow.

I checked the Headers, to make sure they would fit, They Look good But the collector is going to be very close to the 700r4 Trans Bell-housing.

They are Sanderson Headers, ceramic coated, i opted for the short headers as it will be a 3.5" x 5.0" drop, so I wanted to make sure i had plenty of clearance.

I dont want to be making sparks, where there's sparks, there's fire.

I thought about putting a side pipe exhaust, drilled out, then with a really low pressure pump and regulator, put a fuel injector toward the end of the exhaust, and another hole with either a electronic igniter, or a spark plug, both hooked to a switch.

That would be in case a Ford was trying to pass me.

Flip the switch and burn his eye brows off, or in the case of a Ford burn his Uni-Brow off.

Just kidding

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

I received 5 more boxes yesterday, all from ECE.

Just a note there is a cable/harness that comes with the 700r4 trans cross member. I did not look at it to see what it was for.

I just keep finding more & more parts to go to the Powder painter.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

I did work on degreasing the frame a little more, once i get the frame degreased to my satisfaction, i will take the wire wheel to it and remove the rest or the paint and any surface rust.

I may use the KBS coating on the frame, using their Rust Intervention coating.

Has anyone used this coating on their frame??

Here are a couple pics.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Today I removed the Bench seat, then pulled up the stock floor sound proofing/heat mat up.

I had to, to get to the Front Body mounting bolts as I am replacing the rubber biscuits. between the body and frame.

These were the Front Left & Right body mounts, you can see how deteriorated they were, the Fronts were very compressed and Cracked, the Rear ones, seemed to be in better shape, they were not as cracked up, as the front ones.

Here are a few pics.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

OK, Removed the Body mount rubber biscuits today.

WOW they were really compressed, jacke dup the body high enough to get them out, but putting the new ones back in, I had to jack the cab up higher, as the new ones were at least a 1/2" thicker or more

I started by putting in the Right Rear, Then the Right Front, although I did not get a picture the right side was at least a 1/2" higher or more, it was very noticeable.

The Right side of the Cab was higher than the Left, it had a slant to it that you could not miss.

I also finished cleaning the Frame & the firewall.

I Picked up a Air chisel, so i can get the trans Cross member rivets removed, Ill remove that trans Cross member tomorrow.

There are still a lot of leaves in the ventilation system on that truck, must have had an oak tree near by.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Here are some pics of the Frame & body after it was cleaned a little moe.

After Cleaning the firewall, I'm thinking that I am going to paint the firewall 20% semi gloss black, same as the Frame, since it did not clean up as well as i would have like it.

besides the Black paint will hide a lot of crap.

Lets see if anyone is actually out there.

In the picture, is a Trans Mount for the Manual 3-speed from the I6 250ci engine & trans that was pulled out.

Question is: Can that be used as a Front Trans mount, for a 700r4, I have a rear trans mount from ECE ?

I have painted quite a few firewalls black when I had too but they always look better body color, maybe you could touch yours up if you think it is a bit to rough.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Didn't get anything done this weekend it's my & my daughter's birthday, we both have the same birthday.

We are actually 2 hours apart, she was born at 12:20p.m. & I was at 2:20p.m., & 30 years.

She came to visit from collage.

I believe that timing is everything.

I will start again Monday.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Thanks!! Mud.man.rj

We had a great weekend.

As for this week I need to clean the rest of the frame, and get it prepped for a frame on paint.

I need to,

1. Pick up some Chevy Original Color Paint for the Firewall.

2. Get the Frame ready for the KBS Coating, after the firewall is painted.

Later this week or next week I should be ready to pick up the powder painted parts for re-assembly of the front end.

Re: 67' C10 Build V8 Conversion & 700r4 trans

Today i got to use my Air chisel.

Since i did not get any reply's to my questions about the manual trans cross member, and weather or not it was needed for the 700r4 trans or not, I got no reply's just crickets, But maybe there is only 2-3 people watching this build.

I guess it would be better to go post it as a problem/question section of the forum to get it looked at by more people, rather than post it in a build section of the forum.

I searched this site and could not find anything, maybe it was the way I searched.

so I went to another truck site, they answered my question.

Anyway removed the Manual trans cross member, with the air chisel.

here are some before & after with the Manual trans Cross member removed

Yep, just chiseled mine out last week, didnt seem to agree with my 4L60E. I think it is quicker to ask a Q seperately than in a build unless you have 50 people watching you who have been there, I havent checked on you in a while. nice progress

Good!!
Glad you guy's confirmed that the cross member needed to come off.

I did not want to bolt that thing back on anyway.

But the surprising thing is, with the engine out, and that Trans cross member out, the frame is fairly flexible.

I will clean the frame further back from the Manual Trans cross member tomorrow.
