Starter problems

I HAVE A 65 & 66 C10 & C20 WITH SMALL BLOCK CHEVY MOTORS, I HAVE STARTER ISSUES WITH THEM AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN RUNNING FOR AWHILE. THEY WONT START, BUT IF YOU LET THEM SIT AWHILE THEY WILL START BACK UP. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ARE BEING HEAT SOAKED BY THE HEADERS. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS? WITHOUT ME REMOVING THE SHORTY HEADER THAT I HAVE ON THE MOTORS?

You could install a mini starter but you would have to take the present starter off and that probably means the shorty header

When it doesn't start do you get a click or nothing at all?

Here is an article explaining the kit sold by MAD Electrical, "START'M UP kit".

Heat shields here and here

All that is covered in the thread I linked and it is the Mad Kit.

If you can jump directly from the large cable on the solenoid to the "S" terminal on the solenoid with a screw driver or wire jumper and the starter still does not turn then the remote solenoid will not help. Make sure the truck is out of gear and the ignition is off. I'm surprised that the mini starter will not turn when the engine is warm. It must be a cheaper model.
