New Maaco paint - Before and After
I finally saved up enough coin to get an el-cheapo Maaco paint job to get rid of the ugly dark green PO repaint and am really happy with what a great job they did. The body work is horrible because I did it all and had no idea what I was doing (all I did was fill in the biggest rust holes), so I can't blame them for the poor prep work, but their paint is great and turned my 100 foot truck into a true 10 footer.
My truck was originally a plain Jane base model that was all the 504 yellow green poly (my favorite color). I had them add the two tone because I like the look and had picked up a cheap set of used trim along the way. They nailed the original 504 color, which was my biggest worry. This is just their cheapest paint choice with a clear coat so it won't last forever, but for four days of work and $940 it sure looks a lot better than before and I'm not embarrassed to drive it around. Anyway, here are the before and after pics so you can judge for yourself. For those that don't have the time and money to devote to real, show quality body work and paint, from my experience you might give Maaco a look for a super quick and cheap option.

I haven't used Maaco yet but will someday, not everything merits 4-5K in paint alone. Yours went from tired to fresh. Good looking truck!

Nice pictures of your truck, it looks great. Keep lots of wax/sealant on it, it should last a while.

Re: New Maaco paint - Before and After
I think your truck looked good before BUT looks awesome now! And so what if you have some waves or dents in it. Its all about keepin the truck alive and on the road. Wish Mine looked as sharp as your truck. Keep up the GREAT work!

Re: New Maaco paint - Before and After
I like it. Way to go. I can't fathom spending thousands on a paint job for one of these trucks. I say either leave a truck patina, or go the route you did.

Re: New Maaco paint - Before and After
Good for you! I'm just up the road outside Frederick MD. My truck already had a "Maaco" paint job on it when I got it earlier this year. I just tell everyone to stay back 30'. Plan to do body work and deal with lots of small things for the near future. Fortunately for me the truck is great mechanically and a pleasure to drive. I keep an eye out for you when I pass thru on the way to the airport.

Looks very nice. If it looks good in photos and from 20 feet away, you got your money's worth! Enjoy!

Re: New Maaco paint - Before and After
glad they worked out for ya. I didn't even know maaco was still around. Had a 57 chevy painted by them in 1983 and I got much more than I paid for. I got paint on my tires, on my wheels, all over the engine's chrome..... ha. It's funny NOW. Not so much then. All depends on the owner and the workers - if they are good, doesn't matter if it's a cheap job, they do it will. If they are lazy bums, like my maaco shop, then you you'll feel like you paid waaaay too much.
Yours looks real nice, like the color combo a lot. Congrats! |
