Thumbs up 2003 LSx swap thread...here we go

Ok everyone here is the begining of the swap. Well at least I'm working on stuff.
Got the motor hoist setup and went to get my motor and my buddy had a motor on his so it will be tomorrow before I can get it. I did take all the front brackets off except for the AC since I want be using it not worth the trouble to clean it up yet.
Motor hoist. $198.00 at Harbor Freight 1000 lbs.
$2200.00 Motor, trans, stand alone wiring harness, motor mounts, fuel pump
198.00 Hoist
$12.00 paint
I keep the cost updated as I go or at least try.

I came home and started cleaning stuff and primered & painted some. I started with the coils and hardware and dipstick. Cleaned the brackets up and painted them and cleaned up the coils. Cleaned up all the front brackets and got primered and some painted not all though.
Man I wished they get the gallery fixed where I could put the pictures as I did them. Just bare with me everyone. Pictures are just as I can load them.

It sucks not being able to hear!

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Cool Re: 2003 LSx swap thread...here we go

5 pictures at a time it's going to be a slow process! It's going to take longer doing the updates than the work!
I bought some cheap paint at wally world for the brackets and will by motor paint when I get it prepped.
I'm thinking about painting the fan blades Red! What...
I primered everything and then sprayed the metalic silver to them. I will go back and do the pulleys black along with the PS pump.

I think is going to turnout pretty after it's all said and done. I plan to just take my time on this and do it slow and right the first time I hope. I got the front brackets all primered and one coat of paint on them and they are drying over night.

I plan to paint the whole motor except for the heads once I get it home and cleaned up. I painted the back plastic of the alternator RED!That's what gave me the idea to paint the fan blades red!
The picture of me holding the coil wiring it's all dirty and I wiped it off 2 but it just looks nasty to me. Is that covering heat insulated are will regular black tape with conduit be OK?
That's it for tonight I'm done. Got to get the motor tomorrow and close up the pool so it may not get nothing done...yea right!

Andy, host your images on a file service like photobucket or imageshack etc. You won't be limited to 5 images, and the service will burden the storage instead of our site.

I haven't started on the engine yet since it's been at my buddies shop but here is what it looked like last week when I picked it up. It sat in the truck over nite at the house then went to my friends shop because I had no way to get it out of the truck. My son needed his truck for work.

That's why I bought a engine hoist yesterday. Now I can do it myself!

Re: 2003 LSx swap thread...here we go

Just an FYI, it's a 2001, in 2002 they stopped using the EGR valve. You can eliminate it and have the emissions deleted in the tune to make it cleaner looking. Also, it's out of a 2500 or 3500 since it's got a 4l80e behind it.

Well I guess it's not a 2003 then. I was wondering why it had the egr valve on it and none of the ones I've seen had it. Thanks and yes I will be getting rid of it. No emmsions on this one. I plan to install the AC up there anyway and was wondering what to do. Thanks.
So I got the motor home between down pours today and started cleaning again. I guess they make a block off for the intake? Where the hose to the EGR valve goes.
Here are a few more photo's for u.

I printed the manual off at work the other night and made me a note book to keep up with things.

Here it is back at the house and I started on it agin getting the ac off.

Opened up the valve covers and saw this.

Re: 2003 LSx swap thread...here we go

You can get the block off for the intake at the dealer, not sure of the part number though. It's a small stamped steel plate with an o ring that bolts on to the intake. You'll probably be changing exhaust manifolds so that part you shouldn't have to worry about.

Do I need this black bracket?

I took the senors out and painted the brackets for them.

Junk pile are trading stuff which ever.

He said it was a corvett manifold. I don't know what it is.The flange is twice as big as the truck manifolds u can see in the picture.

That's for the original shift cable, you won't need it if you're going to use your '72 linkage.

Well now I have to decide if I'm going to reinstall everything before I put it in the truck and take a chance on messing all my new painted parts up while test fitting everything. Oh boy!

Yes it was on the starter and it just slips on. I took the starter this morning to O- Reilly's and they tested it for me. It worked fine so now I will clean it up and paint it as well.
Got the new temerature senor to while I was there.
