Auto metal direct

I'm looking for new inner fenders for my 71 and came across an ad in Old Cars Weekly for auto metal direct in Georgia (near me) which speaks highly of them. Before I buy I'd like to know if anyone has had any experience with this company. I know after market parts never fit right. These are $100 each which is cheaper than LMC and I know LMC is foreign made. Any input appreciated.

Re: Auto metal direct

I've bought plenty of AMD. Nice fitting panels for my CAMARO.

I have no experience with their truck sheet metal.

Re: Auto metal direct

I bought a nearly complete 68-72 bed kit from them. When I started putting it together, the rear cross sill would not fit in the bed side channel because that part of the bedsides had been stamped incorrectly. I got the run around for over 5 months before they finally refunded me $50 per bedside. I'm not sure if they have fixed the stampings or not. That is my only experience with them. Will not deal with them again.....

Re: Auto metal direct

Don't know about AMD, but I did buy foreign made L&R inner fenders last year from another vendor. No fitment issues with them....they look fine also...not as heavy gauge as the OEM though. They were around $68 each I believe.

Re: Auto metal direct

I've wondered about amd myself. I see them on all of the Saturday/Sunday morning car shows on velocity or a few other channels and like every other product those shows endorse they make them look like gold.

Re: Auto metal direct

There is a gap between the quality of OEM, and the quality of AMD panels, but for the most part they are the closest thing you can get to a new OEM panel. Unfortunately 40 years of wear and tear can make even OEM panels fit funny if they aren't from the same vehicle.

Re: Auto metal direct

Just an FYI, any AMD part with an "X" in the number is NOT made by AMD.
