5.3 stromberg look alike big block

This is my 51 with a stock 5.3 that came out of a 01 Silverado. I flipped the stock intake around and ran it thru the cab to the old heater vent on the passenger side. The top is just pvc, fiberglass and muffler tips. The Chevy emblem on the front is the original horn button that was in the truck when i brought it home. Built brackets for the big block valve covers to hide the ugly coil packs. ceramic coated stock manifold. Name: 20160606_182808.jpg

Re: 5.3 stromberg look alike big block

Thank you so much for the compliments. The Valve cover or the brackets for them. What's your question solid? The brackets I made out of plastic bins. I pulled them out of someone's trash, they were pretty thick. I did that 10 years ago. Now you can buy kits to do the same thing. The valve covers them selves I believe are eldelbrock. Again it was 10 years ago when I bought them.

I kept the stock coil packs that you see. They fit easily under the bbc v covers. I only had to make a 1-1/4 hole to extend the oil fill up. I kept everything stock because I wanted to keep it reliable. Considering the AD is 2000 lbs lighter than the 01 Silverado it came out of. It's very quick.

Nice work. I like to see the creativity people put into disguising these motors. Truck is gorgeous.

Are you talking about the lovers on the side? Because everything on top of the air intake is just for looks. Here's a pic inside of the cab. I have the evaporator, well full vintage air I have not installed yet. I'm hoping I can squeeze it in somehow.Name: IMG_0443.jpg

What is the story behind this seemingly HUGE idler/tensioner pulley? I like it!

Yes the louvers on the A piller, I cut mine out as I did not see a use for them with A/C
You may have enough room with your evap and your air box but it will be tight !!

Originally I had the alternator mounted on the bottom right of the motor, which I liked so much more. The alternator was grounding out when it got water near it. The pulley was just what I had to make it work.

Re: 5.3 stromberg look alike big block

OK--So I've been following your '54 Aviator build in amazement, then I see this thread where you've already done another setup I've been pondering with the reversed intake through the firewall. I like the idea of the outside air coming through the louvers--I was trying to come up with a design that used the cowl vent, and shedding water was an issue.

One thing I was concerned about was the short distance to the firewall--I thought chafing/breaking/squeaking of the intake pipe might be a problem with the engine torque movement and general movement of the body.

After writing this, it occurs to me that this is a pretty insignificant hurdle when I look at your '54 pics!

What chassis is the '51 on?

John

I'm sorry I thought I already responded to this. To answer your questions.
Where I went through the fwall I simply used a rubber section along with using the bolts for the mas. No squeaks at all. In fact the only noise I hear is when I get into it and it's sucking air, I can hear it a little. Keep in mind this is not idea for hp. You'll want better air flow. I haven't had any issues, but I left it stock.
The 51 has a 77 firebird front clip along with the firebird rearend. Thanks so much for the compliments. If you have any more questions please ask.
