Console Rebuild (Don't hate me!!)

So, last fall I picked up a center console at a swap meet for pennies, considering what people sell these things for one here. Believe me, the console is in rough shape and will need further plastic repair, so don't rip me up for partially destroying a center console and reconfiguring it they way I want it at least I didn't attach a CB to it or an equalizer like back in the day! Here is what it looked like when I purchased it. What you can't see in these pictures is that the lid is just sitting on the console, there was really no way of attaching the lid because the area on the upper console that attaches the hinge the upper console was totally broken off, almost unrepairable.

Re: Console Rebuild (Don't hate me!!)

So, I ordered a few parts (eBay) a few months ago and started an epoxy repair of the hinge area on the upper console which took several layers of epoxy in order to appropriately build up the area:

dude, never apologize to the purists...it's your truck, not theirs.... build it the way you want it. With that said, I really like what you're doing. Resurrecting a worn out console into something new. Keep going and share progress

Smile Re: Console Rebuild (Don't hate me!!)

Back into my spare parts truck. Also I've attached a couple pictures of the one I rebuilt to put in my Dad's truck (sorry for the dust in the cup holder).

Thanks Mike

Re: Console Rebuild (Don't hate me!!)

When I need it, for some future build, I'll finish the plastic repair to the bottom and paint it.

That's it. Thanks Mike

Re: Console Rebuild (Don't hate me!!)

I might now take the off-white console apart at some point and utilize the stainless screws keeping the top and bottom together.

Re: Console Rebuild (Don't hate me!!)

Haven't painted the black one...however, I used SEM products on the cream one. I'll be painting that one again because it doesn't really match the "mystic" color from 79-80.

Thanks Mike.
