I had some time today to dig into the original block that came with the truck. The engine sat outside under a tarp for a year, so I'm happy it still turns over easily by hand. Pulled the heads off and only found scuffs in cylinders 1 and 7, and not too bad. It's never been machined, so I think it would be a good candidate for rebuilding.

Carport is up! Now my truck has a safe place to live protected from the sun and rain.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Nice!
It looks roomy and your truck looks right at home under there. |
Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Nice work. I really like your truck. Hope mine I'm building will look and run as good as yours. Subscribed for sure

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Late to the party. but good to see a c20 build thread. Looks like a good solid truck.
How did you go with a/c charge? I just got mine converted to 134a and it seems cool, but haven't had any hot weather to really test it yet. Anyway love your work. |

I've been having a little trouble with the AC. The belt slips when I'm on the freeway and running the AC. I need to replace it and try to get the new one tighter. |

I just ordered all the bolts that are needed to replace my damaged passenger bedside from MAR-K. Great customer service and very helpful - I would recommend them to anyone needing bed parts.

I'm dropping my truck off tomorrow for bedside surgery. Can't wait to get it back as a straight truck!

I wondered what you were up to.

Progress is slow at the body shop, but it's progress. I will keep showing up to take pictures, and to remind him that I have cash for him when it's done.

From the standpoint of reading your thread that looks like good progress, I'd be really excited too.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Yeah it's amazing how slow body shops can be on custom work, their bread and butter is insurance work which makes any custom work a low priority.
What are you doing about the tool storage door? |

It's starting to look like a truck again!
Still needs some work to fix the toolbox door. He pulled the skin off to straighten it up, patch a rusty spot, and seal up the inside. Attachment 1477993 Attachment 1477994 Attachment 1477995 |

Well I got my truck back. Unfortunately, that's the end of the good news.
Attachment 1480831 The bad news is the guy did a very sloppy, unfinished job, and also managed to destroy my irreplaceable blue/yellow license plate by dropping the bed on it. I told him I wanted it perfect and ready to paint, but what I got is very disappointing for what I paid. - He didn't finish sand anything. Rough sanding marks, gouges, and squared-off corners. - There are bumps, smudges, and fingerprints in the primer. - A big black sealant paint drip running up from the bottom. - Extra bondo is hanging off the edges. - Edges of toolbox door are wavy. - Toolbox door doesn't fit straight with body. - Didn't replace toolbox door weatherstripping as promised. - Huge rusty holes and smashed up bends in the license plate. Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Yikes man sorry to hear that.
It is unfortunate that there are people out there that have no professional pride, that cut corners and are dishonest, not everyone is like that though, when you are ready to get it painted you need to ask around a lot and find someone known to do good work by reputation and you can show him the shoddy work done by the previous guy and he will fix it man so no worries. |
Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Sorry to hear of your plight with the shop but you still have a nice truck and you will find a better shop .

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Sorry to hear about the body shop fiasco.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
Sorry to read about the bodyshop problems. I went through that myself back in the day. I decided to learn how to do it myself. That way I'd never pay anyone to screw up my trucks again. Good luck in the future.

Re: jimbosprint 1972 C20 - the good, the bad, and the ugly
I just got back from the shop. He is offering to make it right. I almost don't want to let him touch it, but legally I have to give him a chance to fix it before I can sue. He only offered a partial refund, and he said I would have to wait a month or more because he doesn't have the money. I got his offer to fix it in writing, but I didn't leave the truck there. Not sure what to do.
