Finally back in my house for the first time in 8 weeks after the flood. Pictures are of the AC pump and brackets that raise it up.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
That really is the best setup for our trucks. Nice work! Keep the pics coming!

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Looks good. After all this work on my trucks crossmember I think I am going this route. Did you get the relocation kit from vintage air with the compressor?
And nothing beats home... Glad your back home! |

I got some work done today and welded up my headers so they fit. I wish I did what I did on the left side for the right. left side I cut the why pipe loose and rotated it in about 3/8" and was able to grind the piece I cut out and reuse it. Now if I can just find the collectors for the headers I could start the exhaust

Nice job on the headers. Such a shame they had to be cut, but whatchagonnado?
They fit now. Can't wait to see the body all straight and ready to go on chassis. Chris |
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I found my exhaust collectors on Monday while looking for the rear drive shaft yoke and started working on the exhaust this week. I bought an 2.5" exhaust kit from Summit from Magna Flow and it does not fit the headers to the back T-case what so ever. I ordered some tubing and bends from Summit and hopefully the tubing will be here by Friday as I have 4 day week end I can get some work done. Friday afternoon my nephew and I are going to fire up my car finish breaking in the cam and hopefully drive it around the block. then I have the get the front end aligned.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Just got confirmation that Summit order will be delivered Friday by end of day.

Nice. Just in time.
So between the Sattelite tranny swap and the truck exhaust fab you should have no problem keeping busy this weekend. BTW - do you have a name for your truck build? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Great fab work. I've never seen a suburban turned into a crew cab truck but it looks like it's coming together nicely. Is there a reason you decided not to go with a diesel power plant or at least a big block? Or is this truck more of a cruiser? Either way it will look sharp when it's done. Do you have a color in mind for when it hits the paint booth?

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration

No name for the truck Mr. D
Truckguy99 I did pick colors see attached picture. I would like to put a diesel engine in they are a lot of money and hard to find. I went with the 5.3 as the are easy to find fuel mileage better that BBC. Thanks Dieselwrencher |
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
So I finally got the car running. Ran it for 20 minutes like Hughes Engines recommended started checking timing and got to put the tranny in gear all going well then Bryan noticed oil leaking under the car. Shut it down and again the tranny leaking from the bell housing not as bad but its leaking. Went to start the car to move out of the shop and it won't start only getting 6 volts to the dissy for some reason.
The exhaust parts I got from Summit are very nice polished stainless steel I should have built the exhaust system from Summit parts. now I have some work to get done. |
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Man, sorry to hear about the set backs with the car! I know that is a pita. Hang in there man!

I posted picture on Friday of the exhaust system and it went by by. so here it is Again. started installing the Magna Flow exhaust system Friday spent 3 days and almost finished it. it did not fit from the headers to the T-case so I ordered parts from Summit nice part Summit sent me polished stainless steel. the only parts I did not modify is the X pipe and mufflers. all in all it can put nice should sound good. I did order 4 more hangers from Summit only 4 came in the kit. I used 2X6 to support the X pipe and mufflers the n built the rest to fit.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
Looking good. Did you mig weld the joints on the stainless steel tubing? What kit did you order?
|
Wow Dave, that's looking really good. Your build is finally coming together nicely.
Won't be long now and you'll have the cab back on and you'll be up to your ears in wiring! Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
I used stainless steel wire in my mig welder with Argon C02 mix. I still have to grind and clean up the joints witch is a lot of work.

Re: 71 4X4 Frame off Restoration
