Yep. Not many remember the late 70s/early 80s, when many over spenders and speculators had to sell off all their “Toys”. (Sports cars, Hot rods, 4wd Trucks, boats, snowmobiles,…..)
It’ll start with a fair amount at the “What I’ve got into it” price. As the economy gets worse, more and more Toys will come up for sale. Too many will be put out into the “I’m gonna fix it up one day” category, and this is a shame. I’ll be waiting for this and as time goes on, the buyer will be able set the price, as long as you have the cash. “Cash on the Barrelhead”will dictate the “Used Toy” market in the near future, just like before when people were dumping the “Gas Guzzlers” then.

The classis car dealers are trying to manipulate the market by asking obscene values for vehicles. In the end I think they are trading for far less or not at all. Plus there has been stuff online for sale for a couple years now (like all the blazers for sale for $50k) that hasn't moved.
<...snip...>

I've suspected this for quite some time now. There are a few Online dealers that absolutely overprice their units, sometimes wildly so.

While I'm not convinced it's all a hoax, we do have a lot of sharks and misinformed folk attempting to sell these trucks for stupid money.

My truck must be worth around 50k now based on the prices I see out there

Case in point:

Another ( this one was notorious for overpricing their units...now they have reserve auctions with bidding starting low. I suspect they have equally too large reserves set on them ):

If someone offered me half that much for my '71 Custom Deluxe they'd have bought themselves a truck.

I know blue book values are not the way to go for truck prices but, I own a 1970 C/10 Longbed fleetside without power steering and without air. Back when I got mine in 2008 the high retail N.A.D.A. blue book said it was worth about $30,000 now they say it's worth $77,000 without air mind you. So maybe they're going up.

Gateway ? Seriously ? Rather buy from a guy, who knows a guy on the south side of Chicago then that operation.

Yep. Ever stop to think about what other fine vehicle you could buy for the same money as that truck you're looking at?

Right now, it seems the anything older than early 70s have a ridiculous “Asking Price” on them.
I’m passively looking for a 62-65 Nova, the 2-doors are outrageous, and even the 4-doors are 7-10k, and that’s for a Roller!
Then you start really looking into then and the amount of rust repair that needs to be done? It kills me how “Rust in the usual locations”, and “Panels will need to be replaced” are selling points nowadays. They’re just not worth it to me.:smoke:

I think we are all looking at this wrong. Our trucks are just trying to keep up with the rising cost of steel.

As more and more people want a truck the supply of nice ones dwindle. So now even rust buckets have value . It’s not just trucks but all old vehicles in general. I have personally stripped parts cars that would be coveted today. My parts Chevelle’s were nicer than most I see being restored today
