That formation is not on my frame, which is factory V-8. Bet that's the trouble.

After a more careful look, my frame is indeed shaped like that. Which makes sense, GM hopefully didn't make too many different frames.

Interesting. I hadn’t thought about needing more clearance for an I6. My truck is a factory V8 and has than rolled up portion of the frame rail. Never could figure why.

Garyd1961, Thank you I think you hit the nail on the head! When I first connected the hose at the pump it seemed to me that it was pointing further down than it should. I thought that was the way all SBC pumps where. I am running a long pump so not sure if all long pumps inlets are in the same position. Added some pics of my pump, I will try to find the receipt and the application. I am locked in with a long pump due to new plulleys and brackets.

Thanks for the information, I will check out Dakota hoses. Was the pump end a bit larger that required a double clamp?

You're very welcome! BTW, I'm fairly sure that all SBC long water pumps are the same, so finding a suitable lower hose is probably the easiest route.

In the past my local shop let me go in the back and match up brake lines and hoses. If your shop won't escort you to the back, maybe you could have them bring out a few of the Dakota V8 lower hoses suggested by twoskies. I was curious, so I grabbed these numbers for V8 Dakota hoses:
89-91 5.2L V8: Gates 20145 (1.75" ID)
92-96 5.2L V8: Gates 21956 (1.75" ID)
97-99 5.2L V8: Gates 22287 (1.72" ID)
00-04 4.7L V8: Gates 22250 (1.72" ID)
00-03 5.9L V8: Gates 22251 (1.72" ID)
They all appear to have the same diameter on both ends. Of course it's hard to match up based on pics, but one of those might do the trick (22250, 22251 & 22287 below). I hope you don't mind the info - it's an interesting problem (and probably a frustrating one for you!)

With a lot of long water pump setups on C10s out there, someone in the future will benefit from your work. I hope you figure it out!
