Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
Looks good...keep us updated with your progress.
BTW. that rear diff in your truck is a 12 bolt. And X2 on the HEI....it should fit without any problems. |
Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
Arekusu, nice job on the build! How much work was it to get that grille to bolt up?
|
Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
Ya, I really like the older front end too. I think it makes it look more tough. Anyway, the grill wasn't hard to bolt up. I'm guessing the reason why is because the mouth is off of a 60-62, the holes are different. My 64 grill did not bolt up to the mouth because the holes were different but the older grill, no problem. I'll get that pic of the shifter tomorrow afternoon. I really appreciate all the comments. Other people like my rusted pile of something too. :)

:hi:fromAZ. Nice job on the truck and cool to see the progression of the projects.

Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
Alex, thanks for the info, if you dont mind I would love a little more detail. My 64 has the 64 mouth, in your case was it just a matter of the bolt holes not lining up or was there structural differences as well? thanks!!

Do you happen to know if that distributer has a smaller cap than the standard chevy HEI.The stock Chevy was too big by a 1/2 an inch. Alex |
Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
On my girl's '65, we have a 350 in it, engine in the rear position, and the HEI fits fine. Is your engine sitting closer to the fire wall than stock?

Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
Nice Work! Sick little Six Four! Love the Hood Man!!!

Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
I'm curious about the T-5 too. Did you have to shorten the driveshaft at all, or did it bolt right in? What trans was in it before? I have a t-5 behind a 351 in my Cougar, and yes, 5 gears is amazing in a classic.
Your truck looks great! |
Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
That hood strikes a chord with me and gets me thinking. Welcome.

Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
the problem I had with the HEI conversion was there was not enough room to drop the distributor (with the cap off) in due to the forward slope of the fire wall, I had to unbolt the transmission and jack up the rear of the engine to gain the proper clearance, after the distributor was 3/4 of the way in there was plenty of room to lift it up to move the distributor around to get it properly timed.

Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
somebody beat my firewall in to make the HEI fit,
idiots |
Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
I havent had a problem. Ya'll must not be holding your mouth right.

Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
Nice truck you have there. Good choice on the hood. I like the older look of the 60, 61 hood. My 60 came with a 64 hood when I bought it. The hood was the fist thing I replaced.
Heres a pic of another New Mexico truck rescued from the ranch. http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/3019/60chevy004.jpg |
Re: Old School Hot Rod Truck (1964)
just curious how you knew it was a '64 hood...
i believe all the '62-'66 hoods are the same... |
