Re: My 68 swb build.

Last nite I got the engine on the frame and the tranny case mocked up. It's empty. Turns out I gotta cut the driveshaft 3.5 inches. Does anyone know if the stock tranny crossmember will work with the 700r4? It looks like it'll hit the pan but I'm not sure. I gotta say that engine is quite heavy with everything installed on it. A few neighbors and I manhandled it off the stad and onto the frame. Only broke one spark plug. Should she if she'll fire up this weekend. Kinda excited cause I've been waiting to see this engine run. It'll be the first start since teardown. Any tips before I turn her over? I know I need to prime it but anything else?

Hey 77 chris03 do you think that you could give me some advice on my engine. Its a 357 with bearigs out .10 everything is stock. I need some advice on what I can do to get it worthy of putting it in my 71. Thanks.

Re: My 68 swb build.

If it's a 357 that would make it .040 on the cylinders. What kind of advice are u looking for? Mine is a 350 4 bolt .040 on cylinders .010 on all bearings and new internals. Crank turned and polished. Only thing that's stock is the crank and rods.

DUDE! You have definetly taken a challenge there with your cab! I have to admit it looks a lot like the one that was on my son's 69 when we started. It took me all of about 5 minutes to decide no dice on that. We were lucky to find one on Craigslist that was about as rust free as you can find in Oklahoma. I will be watching this one. Have to hand it to your for taking on that rust!

Re: My 68 swb build.

Go with 1.6 roller rockers, stock sized pushrods, z28 springs, a nice cam nothing over a 500 cause that's all those springs will handle. Is it being built or already done and adding?

Re: My 68 swb build.

quick question for everyone that is kinda following this slow thread. i had some mexican shop that was gonna finish my floor for me, well just the metal work, and they ended up completely screwing everything up. its one of the reasons why i put the truck on hold because i lost all motivation because i kinda have to start over on a few things...i found an aftermarket floor pan for 200$, and i got it. now my question....should i just replace the sections they screwed up or remove the whole thing and start new?they chopped my inner rockers up and beat the pass. floor in after a new one was tacked in.... not to note that they filled the floor with a crap load of bondo that i made them wire wheel out....again this was back in feb...is there anyone who could help me get this done? im really really tight on money and my dad says im giving up on my truck...if i could get some help it would be awesome.. i have the garage but no space to do it.. is there anyone close to me that could give me a hand? i can pay in beer?lol or if someone close that wont screw me over who has the little extra enclosed space or a garage that needs some occupancy for a few weeks? ive just got my dad hounding me and i dont wanna let him think im giving up...if i can get my cab done (metalwork, bedliner, and primered) i can put it on the frame....ive already got the cab mount kit collecting dust.

BTW..STAY AWAY FROM TGI FRIDAYS in the woodlands, tx.... im just now gettiing over food poisoning, it put me in the hospital saturday...almost had to have a blood transfusion because the only thing coming out was solid blood....but im getting better now....

wow, sorry to hear about the food poisoning...and the floor....hopefully someone local can help out...

Re: My 68 swb build.

Wow! sorry to hear about the food poisening. Man, that sucks! Also, too bad about the shop you took your truck to. I wish I could help but your a bit too far away. Not for sure what you should do without looking at the floor, if you do decide to change the whole thing (which sounds like the most straight forward), make sure you weld plenty of braces in to keep it straight. There are a several builds in here where guys have changed the whole floor. I will see if I can find some.
good luck!

Re: My 68 swb build.

i....will upload some of the pics of the floor...i assure you its pretty bad...my 15 yr old brother in shop class could do better... will post some pics tomorrow cause im at my girls apartment tonite...gotta love being sick, im the patient, shes the doctor...lol anyone know how hard it is to do the floor swap? i had a real shop quote it and he told me 800 to put it in not including tearout...someone scream rape?
