Here is my moms 57' chevrolet. She got it when she was 16, had to pic around 16000 square bales for it. She drove it for 2 years then moved to the big city and my uncle blew the engine up on her. The truck means everything to my mom. i have been slowly buying parts for it, or i should say horse trading stuff for it. trying to keep it low budget. updated suspension from something else and a 283 with a 700r4 behind it. have a s-10 chassis also with the 4.3 and 700r4. not sure which way to go. gonna leave it original outside but fix the rust and put a sign on the door for out farm. let mom enjoy it. hopefully have enough stuff to start it next year.My mom does not know i am doin this, it will be a total suprise for her. anyways here is some pics.

Re: Show us your projects
Hello All,
This is my first post. This 56' is my 14yr old daughters' truck; it is our first build any kind. She found this truck on her own with no pressure from me. Goal is to have it ready for when she's driving for High School. But, hope to have it done in a year. We stripped it down last weekend. We'll be on this site for lots of advice, so thanks in advance for everyone's assistance. I'm putting a 55 cab and front end on a modified 1977 chevy shortbed 1/2 ton chassis. I shorted the front frame horns a little and installed the 55 cab mounts. I made my own core support. I'm using 1958/1959 Fleetside bedsides with a 1979 chevy shortbed metal bed floor. I put a dash out of a 1959 impala in it. I used the front pulleys/brackets/serpentine belt system off of a 1993 5.0 liter silverado. I used a steering column out of a 1986 chevy full size van. I have a balanced 355 sbc engine with a turbo 350 trans with a lokar nostalgia shifter. I plan to paint it Mercedes Silver (code 744) and install torque thrust D wheels with Bridgestone radial ta tires. I'm new to the group. This is my first post. I hope my photo loads ok. |

Here are photos of my dash and frame. I used a Western drop spindle kit. I had to channel the rear of the 1955 cab to fit over the 1977 frame.

Here's a photo of the cab bolted down to the frame. I've got a long way to go.

Here's a shot of my engine. They are Sanderson C 10 Headers. I'm pretty impressed with their fit. The serpentine belt setup is off of a 1993 5.7 Silverado. I'm going to get my frame painted within the next couple of weeks and then set my cab back on. I'm in the process of coating the bottom of the cab now with tintable bedliner. |
Re: Show us your projects
hey thats the same swap i did!! makes for alot of a lower stance and aint that hard to do but alot of people think it is??
*****in truck man!:metal: |
Re: Show us your projects
I'm going to try and find the photos I took of the inside floor of the cab. I made some caps to cover up where the frame rails come up through the floorboard. I have two borla pro xs 2.5" inlet/dual 2.5" outlet mufflers that I plan to have installed within the next month or so. I'm planning to run two exhaust tips out each side between the rear of the cab and the front of the rear wheels. I found an emergency brake lever off of a late model camaro that I am going to mount on my shifter bracket to the right of my shifter. I think it will hook up to the stock 1977 e brake setup pretty easily. I'll post some pics when I do.

Here's a shot of my cab floor. The raised area covers the 1977 frame rails. It gives me the low stance look with the original suspension travel.

Re: Show us your projects
Since I haven't seen any pics of someone building one of these, I'll post mine. It's a 1955 short bus (REALLY short!) that I'm going to transform into a beater to run around to car shows in and piss off the local crying baby brigade.

Re: Show us your projects
Yes. I did it myself.

Re: Show us your projects
A friend of mine once wanted to tint his windows to look like there were skeletons wearing old hats sitting in the vehicle when you looked at them at just the right angle. That would be really cool on this bus.

Here is my project. It will probably stay the way it is until I get finished with school and get some money saved up. Thinking that I will do an S-10 swap and a small block V8 and leave the body alone. Then whenever a kid comes along turn it into a project for them.
|
Re: Show us your projects
Nice looking truck. I like your plans for it also. Wish I would have done that; left my body alone.

Rear is notched pretty large and I have a custom 4-link going together for it. Engine is fuel injected LS1, probably gonna be twin turbo'd. Plan is for a decent daily driver :) |
Re: Show us your projects
This is the build and first fire of my now 16 year old son's '54 Chevy truck. The bed and grille are from the '54 my mom had when I was 8 years old in 1977.
No sound until it fires. Then the first drive... |

http://inlinethumb10.webshots.com/28...500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb43.webshots.com/12...500x500Q85.jpg It has the narrowed IFS from a '79 and 2 1/2 drop spindles. http://inlinethumb25.webshots.com/42...500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb64.webshots.com/45...500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb62.webshots.com/45...500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb15.webshots.com/27...500x500Q85.jpg Its powered by a 327 with TPI & a 700r4 trans. http://inlinethumb03.webshots.com/37...500x500Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb36.webshots.com/45...500x500Q85.jpg It's by no means finished. I'm still playing around with the IFS. I cameacross som tubular control arms that I will install soon. The current photos show 16x7 & 17x8 Torq Thrust II's but I've purchased some 17x7 & 17x11's to replace them. |
Re: Show us your projects
Here are some shots of my project. The cab/frame is a 1958. The front end is a 1955 and the bed is a Cameo. I had the 58 and started to do a "frame off" and then decided I wanted it to be a 55. Found a donor truck nearby that had the 55 front end and the Cameo bed. Also just decided to change out the rear monoleaf springs to a CPP 4 link setup. The drivetrain is a 383 crate motor/modified 700r4/9" Ford rear.
