Bad car man! I love 3 deuce set ups! I think the wheel change looks much better, that's the only change it needed. Sweet ride man!

Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Car looks sweet! It is amazing how wheels can change the complete look of a car (or truck). Might have to steal some of these photos for our gallery.... if you don't mind.

Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Thanks Steve!
I went to a small show in Needville, TX this past weekend. Took "best 60's". I had fun and enjoyed some time with friends. I got several compliments on the wheels and paint. The paint is 11 years old and still getting compliments. :metal: |

Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
Here's a bit of an update... I had my parents down around Thanksgiving 2014 (4.5 months ago) and was showing them the new wheels, going to go for a drive when my mom asked about my shifter (hurst quarter stick). I told her to get in and step on the brake so I could show her how it worked. She proceeded to push the pedal all the way to the floor. When we decided to go for a drive, I came to my first stop sign and barely had any brakes... back into the garage it went.
It turns out I had air in the lines and a dry master cylinder. Apparently there's a leak somewhere. To make a long story short, I'm now having to replace a swollen rubber flex line, and while I'm at it I will replace some poorly bent lines that I've never really been happy with, and rebleed the system. Now if I could just get my work load under control so I can be home at a decent hour, and not have my weekends planned for me, I can get them done... :banghead: |
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
I had to tear the front of the engine apart to replace the timing cover. It is the water pump housing also and it had a crack in it that started leaking coolant. It actually started spewing coolant when I hit the throttle. Can't have that, so a replacement went in.
Here it is all complete, newer timing cover, new seals and fresh paint on the front of the engine... Finished it yesterday... No leaks so far. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...psv1bnzktr.jpg And here she is back outside for the first time in about a month. Dirty, but out again. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/gallery/...psec5jymiv.jpg |
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
3 Attachment(s)
I almost forgot... the brakes... I did get them fixed. I replaced every hard and flex line in the car, except for the front flex hoses that are the braided kind, and one hard line under the body from the distribution block to the rear flex hose.
I got to use my eastwood flare tool and swagelock bender... Attachment 1425826 Attachment 1425827 Here's the new lines from the MC to the distribution block on the frame. Attachment 1425828 After these repairs is when I found the coolant leak, or fountain coming from the front of the engine. |
Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
OK, I posted on this thread a year ago. Don't know how I could've forgotten.

Re: Knomadd's '65 GTO (Royal Goat)
My uncle John bought a silver '65 GTO convertible brand new when he graduated from the University of Arkansas and he drove it home from Fayetteville down to south Arkansas to his small hometown of Bearden. He and my dad enjoyed that car and drove it hard! Uncle could make it squeal the tires in 3rd gear! I remember driving it a few times myself back in about 1985 or 1986, but alas.......my uncle moved to Dallas and took it with him and sold it while he lived there around 1990.
It wasn't until years later that I found out that he, not having a son to give it to, was going to give it to me for my high school graduation present! Dad wouldn't let him do it because he was afraid I would wreck it and kill myself. He was probably correct as a friend and I took it out one Saturday afternoon and I punched it at a stop sign and it fish tailed on me and we wound up heading in the complete opposite direction! Lucky no one was in the other lane. Father did know best, but he blew it with that decision! I would have loved that car, but that was years ago. There's a man in my hometown who has a red, all original looking, '65 GTO hardtop. Beautiful car. I see him driving it on nice Spring and Fall days, and at local car shows. It's a beauty, as is yours! Take care of it, they are truly rare to see, much less to own and have in great shape as your is. Great car! GTT |
