Beach-Burb - keep that two tone...it will look awesome!
Yeah - I don't think I will bring up the inner fenders with the painter. He really has taken ownership of this job and every time I get too close he reflectively says be careful! Gotta respect that... The good news is - in the not too distant future - I am going to rebuild the top end on the engine with a Vortec heads, cam swap with a fiTech fuel injection carb. Should get up to an additional 100hp. Guess we can freshen-up everything else then! |

Quick Friday update before the weekend..
Front fenders on and he was about to start fitting the hood, but I had a meeting to get to so missed that! New emblems looked great. Not pictured, but the new lower molding was also in the beginning stages of being put on! And the first shot of my "never will place in any engine bay show"! A new booster and MC are the first thing that obviously needs replacing. Goldclad for sure. Overall, getting closer! |
Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!
Looking more and more amazing!

The cut and polish is about 2/3rds complete and the lower molding is going on after they have finished a section. Glass guy came out and started putting all the glass in with all new rubber. New front windshield is still waiting on the SS trim piece before going in.
The body, minus the grill assembly, is basically complete with gaps done - Guy said getting the hood correct just about made him Tap-Out :-) |

Looks really good. I'm hoping you didn't order reproduction stainless for your windshield. Lots of horror stories on here about trying to get the windshield installed with the new stuff..... LockDoc |
Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!
Well...yeah, I did.
I think the glass guy is coming back today to install it all, so we'll see if I have a bedtime horror story for you all! |

If the bowtie is on, I must be seeing a light at the end of the tunnel - right!?
As I mentioned earlier, my pristine aluminum grill was polished to a brilliant shine...then they anodized it to death! Cloudy, dull, but will probably last another 50 years easy. Next to the new bumper and paint it sure sticks out as "unfinished"...IMO. I am still tempted to get it stripped again and polished...then hit it with a gloss clear. That aside - getting close!! Oh, and keeping the original Cali plate...of course. |

I would just leave the surround for a while and see how it does. I would think in that Texas sun you would be re-clearing it every few years. Dunno' LockDoc |

Getting closer and closer! Might get it back next week!
Look at that beautiful master cylinder and booster next to that ugly inner fender and all that new paint! Oh - and he painted the hinges too!! |

I would just cover around it with paper and paint it flat or semi-gloss black with a brush for now. LockDoc |

So my paint and body guy's wife got Covid and then he got it. They closed the body shop down, so I'm on hold until they get better and can finish up.
Timing is okay - I don't mind leaving it in the shop until this crappy cold/wet front is over and done with. I did sneak in and snap a few shots. It is cut and buffed and put back together with a few minor things needing tweaking, but basically done... Last thing is supposed to be to polish it, clean the tires and wheels and then hopefully I'll be driving it home! Like I've said - the lighting in this shop is so weird. Each of the 4 pictures has a different shade of the 504 green...it's crazy! |
Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!
Green does that a lot. Sunlight days, overcast days, different street lights, they all give my Burban different looks.
Once again your Burban is gorgeous! :metal: |
Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!
I love it!!! I hope they get better soon....

Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!
It looks like he blew it out of the park. Beautiful.

Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!
I have been following along and got to say it looks awesome.
As far as your fuel injection goes, after hours of homework I went with the Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 XT. It was a little more money but you get port injection which is seems to be a far better sett up. When I did it my milage went from 10ish to a solid 16mpg and the thing fired up and drove off the first time like a factory tuned engine. It is a system I will be using again on the next project. |
Re: 69 SLED Finally To Paint and Body!
dozerbill72,
Really appreciate the feedback - I still have time to keep digging into those systems, but will add your experience to the mix, for sure... Thanks again! |
