The way I understand it is that the bags have a sort of internal bumps stop and that the plates of the bag need to contact each perfectly flat if they are ever bottomed out.
If they contacted each other at an angle it could cause damage to the bag.

Im entirely new at this airbag stuff. lol I never heard of that. but that doesnt mean its not true. kinda makes sense.

So I talked to someone at Slam Specialties and they verified that my thinking was correct. The bag plates need to come together parallel to each other to avoid any damage.

I know i originally read about correct bag setup on this site somewhere. just not sure what thread. :metal:

Not too much progress to report on. Im trying to gather parts for the watts link.

Added a crossmember and built some filler panels for it.

The sandblast guy at work let me know they were gonna have a little extra time that they could blast the frame for me so i quickly stripped it down.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...912_150300.jpg

Once it back from blasting I will finish weld everything and box the rest of the frame. then hopefully some paint soon!

I replied to your post about a pair of caliper brackets, but have not heard from you.

I unfortunately have had to sideline The build for a couple months while we build my brothers new drag car.
The only real update I have is that the chassis is back from sandblasting and I picked up a low mile 5.3 for the truck!

I set the cab on and took her to her resting place for the winter. :(

all I have is a 2 car garage and the wife needs a spot to keep her car parked out of the snow. the other spot will be occupied by my brothers drag car that Im doing an bunch of fab work on.

I should be back to the gmc in a few months. sad day.:whine:

Your GMC will be nice with the 5.3. Did you pick that up from Spauldings? What trans are you going to run?

Are you still interested in those spindles, rotors, etc?

I'm interested in some details on your brothers drag car.

I sure did! they actually sent me the wrong motor the first time around and I received one with over 200k on it. They quickly sent me the correct much lower mileage motor so it all worked out.

What trans are you going to run?
As of now im planning on a th350. Theres a guy in Spokane(cant for life of me remember his name right now) who we buy all our offroad th350s from. Hoping to go through him.

Yessir! Sorry I have been slacking on it. The truck has gotten pushed to the side as of recent and hasn't been a priority sadly.

66 nova 2. twin turbo LS build. Building to 8.50 spec. I will post up some pics and more details soon! we are hoping to have it done minus paint/body by Car d'Alene next year.

The truck is still in storage until the fabrication on the drag car is done. probably another month or so.

I scored some 22x9 transit wheels last night off the local craigslist for a killer price! :metal:

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...617_203450.jpg

Saturday my brother and I got the frame in the garage.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...619_161708.jpg

First we cut the bottom of the crossmember and patched it in. I just laid a level across the frame rails and marked the crossmember.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...620_115629.jpg

We added some gussets and some exhaust pass throughs.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...620_133810.jpg

Started on the rear notch. The 60-62 frame doesnt have the jog in it like the later frames do so I just drew up a notch and cut it on one of our plasma tables at work.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...618_095329.jpg

Prepping for the notch. Thats my brother grinding.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...620_140108.jpg

Getting everything mocked up and tacked in.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...620_144033.jpg

Pancaked the front crossmember 2" and somehow didnt take a picture of the finished product.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...620_170446.jpg

We set the front end on it just to get a peek at what it was going to look like.
Not bad for a days work.

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k1...620_202332.jpg

we are still about 2.5" from laying frame. Theres no drop blocks in the rear and the upper balljoints were maxed out.
Im planning on building tube trailing arms with integrated blocks similar to the PB ones. The front I think I will Pie cut the upper arms and see where that gets me. Im trying to avoid drop spindles becasue this build is on a very very slim budget.

The tires were deflated in this pic to get it to lay frame.

Hey just wondering what cutting the X member allows you to do different. I have a 62' frame and was wondering if this would help me do other things.

Its commonly referred to as "pancaking"
theres lots of info in the FAQ page.

If you have a stock 62 crossmember with the torsion bars I dont think pancaking the crossmember is an option. I changed to a later style crossmember.

Another lame update. Still collecting some parts while the truck is still in storage. I have made a bunch of progress on the drag car so it will be out of the garage soon.

Got some new tires for the 22's

Im following you on instagram, just found the build on here. Thinking about using your design on those trailing arms. they look so clean. Your welds are beautiful looking on all the fab work. Are those all mig welds? Great job, looking forward to the finished project.

Yep they are all mig welds. The camera makes them better than they are.
I would be happy to send you the cut file for the box part of the trailing arm!
