I am getting ready to build my frame and i had a couple questions. Why did you notch the front of the frame? I am talking about the radiator support mounts. Do you think you will have much of a bed floor when you put the bed back on? How much do you think you have to raise the floor up? Well thanks for the help!!!! JOSH

I dropped the frame horns because I Z'd the frame.

How much bed will I have- not sure probly allittle more than half a stock bed depth. not sure on how much i will have to raise the floor i have to get a bed first.

Are you backhalfing the frame or are you doing a full frame build.

I am completely building the frame out of 2x6 and 2x4 tube steel. I have been trying to do my homework like crazy before i start but i already have the truck to a rollin chassis and i want to start building the frame. I am going to be using the stock chassis for measurments and a reference guide. I thought about just modifing the rear but i like to go all out when i do things. I don't understand what you said about dropping the horns cause you Z'd the frame. Maybe i don't understand what Z'd means. I have the back half all figured out but still working it out in my head about the front and the front crossmember. Can you please explain a little more about the benifits to Z'ing the frame upfront. well if your building a full frame you dont have to drop the frame horn, you just have to make sue that the fenders line up with the cab.

In a nut shell Z'ing the frame raises the crossmember and makes the frame the lowest part of the suspension. because the control arms hit the ground first on our trucks. the reason you drop the horns is so that everything lines up again. Your truck is looking great. Couple of questions, first, are you using the stock a arms in the front? What kind of bags are you using? Did you buy all the components separately or go with like the air ride kit? Keep up the good work.

I think i finally understand how Z'ing works. Since you bodydropped the cab you have to do the same amount to the front mounts so like you said the front fenders stay inline with the cab. Finally that makes sence:metal: . I do have another question. How do you body drop the cab? Do you alter the mounts for the cab? You know like moving them down a few inches. Would the frame hit the cab?

I was debating on using all 2x4 tube steel for the frame or using 2x5 for the main channels and then using 2x4 for the front and rear sections of the frame. What do you think? Thanks for helping me out!:c2: Josh

no i running Air ride tech A-arms. Right now i have airlift bags, soon ill have slams. i bought the 3/8 starter kit form suicidedoors and made the link bars

As for as the dropping the cab i lowered the mounts on the frame 1". nothing hit exept for the firewall to floor seam, i just notched that.

As for the frame i would use 2x4x3/16" for the whole frame, that way theres room under the cab and frame andyou wont have to notch the seam.

Really nice work. I plan on doing all the same things (the Z and tunnel) to my 86 in the next couple of weeks. It'll be my first try on these kind of modifications myself.

WOW! It has been a while since i checked out your thread. Your doing great!!!:metal: I like where you put the compressors! I haven't seen that done yet. What gas tank did you go with? When do you think you might put the bed on? I am in the process of building my frame and can really appreciate all the hard work that went into that back half.
