Re: Rebuild...(pending a name)
Appreciate it guys. Hey anyone running a 454 big block? Curious because I will be doing the plumbing really soon and would like some guys' "two cents" as to what size of tubing to run and either mechanical or electric fuel pump.

Here is what I got done on friday, not much was done this week. Had some long days at work.
Got the Steering Gearbox mounted. Attachment 1141686 Attachment 1141687 Just a view from up top. Attachment 1141688 Attachment 1141689 Then did some trial and mock up fitting, and despite the little scare with the silver. It really turned out great. Also, doing two coats of the aerosol silver and 2-3 coats of clear. The difference is almost nonexistent between the two. The whole steering linkage got the aerosol silver and clear coat spray. looks good! |

Re: Rebuild...(pending a name)
It's looking good. I cut off the mount on the rear end that you were asking about. It was about 10 years ago so I can't remember for positive how I did it but I believe I did it with a die grinder. It always bothered me too how it looks still there. I never ha any problem with it but I didn't drive truck just too much before tearing apart again haha

Re: Rebuild...(pending a name)
Haha Surprised no one has called me out on the frame accent colors. These colors I got from Stacey David's '67 C10 Project Copperhead.

Re: Rebuild...(pending a name)
Well, I just happen to have the one I took out of my 1970 when I put the '76 frontend in mine. You can have it, just pm me your address & I'll send via USPS.

Re: Rebuild...(pending a name)
I have been looking around here and I'm afraid the one I have is a '71-'72 also... The one off my truck originally went with the '76 frontend donor. I have the one, but it came off a disc brake SWB frame that I bought which means it's the wrong one for you, but I can't be sure of which year it actually is. Do you know if there are any obvious marking differences that make it easy to identify? Where's Keith (Lolife) when we need him?

So with still awaiting some parts, I decided to tear into the cab.
Attachment 1142878 With the seats removed. Attachment 1142879 Some things awaiting to be cleaned and reinstalled. Attachment 1142880 Got my rearend back and cleaned it up. Mounted it on for mocking up the brakes, brake lines, fuel tank, and fuel lines. Also while the truck is like this i am thinking of mocking up the exhaust from the mid crossmember back, to make it easy for me on the back end when i am finalizing everything. Attachment 1142881 |
Re: Rebuild...(pending a name)
Reading in your thread again and realized no one had addressed your question about fuel lines yet. Personally I like electric pumps. Summit sells a complete fuel system in -6AN for around 250 and it keeps up with my 630 HP 535 BBC even on the 1/4 mile track. I have a 950 carb and have never leaned it out that I know of. Would def go to a -8 if were to do again because I'm a bit leary about it but for a 454 I would think -6 on the Summit system would do just fine.
