I was feeling tired while I was reading this thread. Your dogs are big, but they look like good old dogs to me. Something tells me they would let me crawl right into that big pillow/bed, and then join me for an afternoon nap.

I look at this from this perspective , I do not believe you are going to stop anyone who really wants your truck. So that being the case , have a hidden GPS locator on it. at least you could track it down.

You can't use those. They are only designed for racing and the solenoid will melt after a short period of time. You need the actual Micro-Lock that has a lever on it. These are 100% mechanical and activate by pushing the brake pedal down and then flipping the arm. Acts just like having your foot on the pedal. I got one out of a junk yard that I want to look into hooking into my front brakes for winching operations since I have a manual trans.

Micro-Locks are still available new but are around $400 now since they had to add a bunch of stupid safety things to them. They are also no longer legal for instalation as an emergency brake since a hydraulic failure would render it useless. You used to see them alot on medium duty trucks like the power companies bucket trucks.

I don't have any anti-theft devices currently (except the 3 speed trans) but I have thought about adding a relay that must me turned on manually to send power to the starter. And have it direct power to an extra loud horn if somebody tries to hotwire it without turning on the relay.

I don't have the stock bolt for the 3ott shifter, so I can just put the truck in gear, take out the bolt and take the shifter with me.
There are also some bolts/screws for the steering wheel alignment that the previous owner replaced with ones that can screw out by hand, from the outside of the steering wheel (instead of being tightened inside, on the column). Remove these, and the thief won't be able to turn the wheels.
Also, for anyone who didn't know, if you leave your windows open by just a tiny bit, they are much more difficult to break.
If I had the pedal e-brake, I would probably make the release lever removable and carry it with me.
I have remote central locking, but I have not installed the immobilizer or the siren yet, as I only recently got door jamb switches.

I just remembered my truck had an alarm system when I got it. There was a large siren on the drivers side fender. Door jamb switches and a micro switch for the hood. Activated by a keyed switch in the fender.

Great thread. I have an electric fuel pump with the switch in plain site. I think I will fix that. Also, I saw a post about the removable grant - I had one on an RX-7 years ago and found the car broken into and rolled back into the street one morning. I'm assuming the grant saved me that day. Make sure to take the wheel inside!

Here is my current deterrent. Park another truck in front of the one you love the most!

This is what I do. Park my newer cars behind my truck and set the alarms on them. Plus I have a club on the steering wheel, 4 dogs that go ballistic if someone comes around, and .357 reasons not to mess with my stuff.

Of course this only works at home. When I'm out, I just try to park it where I can see it, put the club on the wheel, and lock it. Not the greatest but I live in a very small town. People know me and my truck. If I didn't see someone trying something with it. Someone else probably would.

I had a customers blazer broken into years ago with the steering column busted out so they could jack it.. Funny thing was, the engine was inside the shop on a stand

How about a heavy duty cable lock hooked up permanently to the frame. Then, always park next to something you can chain up to - like a street lamp?

If you're running EFI, you could put a blank tune in it, then switch it when you want to start it up.

I quite sure if the thief has enough time he will get it. In this video supposedly he only needed 10 seconds. Nothing wrong with a obstacle course to navigate, but I still say a well hidden, well wired GPS tracker with a movement alert function gives you your best chance at getting your ride back. You may have to chase it down but at least you know where to look
Bottom line is if they want it bad enough they are going to get it, most thieves go for the easy stuff.

Mine currently doesn't have a steering column. So if they want to take it they need to reinstall the column first.
