Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
“Off to Nebraska”
Nebraska is 452 miles (if l recall correctly) of excitement! I have a friend from there that claimed if the state found 3 or more trees growing in close proximity to each other, it was deemed a state park |

Question
To the farmers out there What do they call these watering devices ? I’m sure a massive pump pushes the water through,, Do the wheels also turn from the water pressure ?? They are everywhere But seem especially prolific on Nebraska |
Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
"sprinklers" ;)
The ones that go around in a circle are called "center pivots" |
Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
I don't know for sure but I always assumed the wheels were propelled by water pressure. Probably adjustable so the rate of travel can be changed.
Hopefully someone who actually knows will chime in. Hopefully I won't sound like a fool. ;) |
Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
They are driven off of water pressure and the wheels are actually on timers, so they move a little, then water, then move a little more etc. or at least that’s how they are here in northern NM/southern CO.
Also for what it’s worth it really sucks when they run on your oil field well locations. Turns everything into a mud bog in no time. |
Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
A guy I worked for one year had a sprinkler with big narrow metal spoked wheels, that you had to move by hand. It was supposed to turn them all the way along but it didn't quite work so you had to walk along and move it little by little in a long S-pattern.
I didn't end up doing the summer irrigation, but I kept having to move the sprinkler out of the way to work the ground and seed it. Of course later on you would have had to either shut off the pump from the river, or else dress appropriately and enjoy cooling off from 95* heat :) |

Love that engine museum! I’m gonna have to check that out! Here’s my hand-me-down lunchbox i had in elementary school in the early ‘90’s. My aunt used it when she was in school and gave it to me. I’ve still got it packed away somewhere. I borrowed this picture from the net.

Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
I lived about three blocks from grade school and usually went home for lunch.
High school was "double sessions" so you went straight through either before or after noon. Not sure what I did for lunch my last couple years after moving to CO, but the last half of my senior year I was done with classes before noon and going to work. Quote:

Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
All the schools here had top shelf lunch rooms. I never took my lunch and had no desire to.
I can still smell that chili and home made cinnamon rolls on Friday. Lots of good cooks here in the sticks. |
Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
Dang, I never got a cool lunch box though.

Thoroughly enjoyed all the pictures of the museum too. Automotive and memorabilia. They definitely were purposeful about how things were displayed and it presents very well. |
Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
Well I have lived in NE my whole life, but have never ventured to the Speedway Motors museum. Should probably put that on my list.
The Valley center pivot irrigation systems are built in my town, Valley NE. by Valmont industries. They are a major employer in the area, they export pivots all over the world, they also are a major player in metal light poles, and a huge galvanizing facility. There is only one Frank Lloyd Wright home in NE. in McCook. It is a private residence and is not open to the public. Enjoying your adventure. Greg |

Oh, by the way as I headed out of there, I noticed so many of the farms That have the same blue silos lined up to the old one |

Thanks for the hugger orange crayon ;) |
Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
What are the chances Elyse will be the only girl in class that knows the terms "hugger orange, highlander plaid, K5, K10, K20 and Dana 60"?

One of the older kids in the neighborhood had a Race Inc. To us, he was a virtual magician, wizard, pro whatever you'd want to call him. His was near identical 'cept for the Cooks Bros forks, FMF bars and blue Snake Belly tires. Hadn't seen nor thought about Race Inc in no less than 40 years! Thanks for that! Those were simpler times for sure |
Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
Eric was a real pleasure having you here! Thanks for the visit. I’ll give her the thanks. She kept talking about the scooter ride.

Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
Very nice sharing across America Road Trip Eric.. enjoying your adventures..

Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
The blue silos brand name was Harvestore. Another name for them was Blue Tombstone because they put a lot of good farms under. Just cost way to much money for how much they would hold. Nice trip.
