I got time this weekend to work on my kick panels. I used fleece to stretch over a wooden frame and used fiberglass resin. Then I smoothed them out with body filler, sanded them down until they were smooth and primed them. I'll have to wait until it's warmer to paint them yellow.

I've been working on the center console for the last few months. I'm going to move the gauge and switches for the air suspension from where they are but here's how looks now.

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread

Picked up some front and rear seats from a 2001 Suburban. The fronts fit fine but the rear brackets will need modification. Here they are:

Nice kicks and console. That's gonna look great all body color. ...and I need some of those seats!

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread

I found these seats on car-part.com and paid $375 for all of them. Didn't get the 3rd row because they wanted $500 just for that. Here are some pics of the rear seats. I cut part of the rear mounting bracket off so they fit with more leg room. I still need to clean them up, drill holes, mount them and wire them up. :metal:

I can vouch for the style and comfiness of those seats since it was last night that I checked out the 'Burb in person.

I'm getting on my big bother to find those old pics of the 'Burb for ya. Hopefully, the ones from Mexico too:ito:

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread

Those pic are going to be sweet! Once I get the seats bolted down we'll go for a cuise.

Since I'm here I'll update my progress. I started on the rear side panels. I used the stock driver side panels as a template then mirrored to fit the passenger side. So far I've got the front two fiberglassed. Sorry no pics yet. I'll post Later this week. The fiberglass resin dries slooooooow in the cold.:chevy:

Here the pics of my progress this week. I got the front driver's side piece done. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread

Well, I made some progress. I wired my seats up and mounted the front and second row. If anyone needs to know the wiring on the seats, there are two large orange wires and one large black to power the seat adjusters. The orange are power and the black is ground. I'm sure some of the smaller wires are for the seat belt indicator light but I won't be needing those. I haven't figured out the seat warmers. I found the info on another board.

I also have been working on my center console. I found a cup holder at a parts store and cut it to drop into the console. I had already planned to have a cup holder there but hadn't found on I liked until now. I haven't actually decided whether to use this console or not. :)

I have also been throwing around some ideas for the interior colors. I painted one of the kick-panels brown to see what it would look like against the carpet. I also painted the speaker cover silver. I still like the idea of having yellow but thought this might be another option. Tell me what you think. :smoke:

Nice build, read every page. Good job on the speaker panels.

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread

I think the brown on the panels gives it a nice classy look. Yellow would be too much and detract from what a great job you have done so far.

I have to :agree: with that. Looks good with the brown carpet. Classy!

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread

Thanks for all the feed back. I think that yellow wouid be to much also, but I think all brown is to. I've seen a two piece kick panel that looked good. i could paint the kick panel yellow or brown and then make another smaller piece that would be painted white to match the door panel. I've also been kicking around the idea of making my own door panels to. Changing the seats makes me want to go all out on the interior. Thats alot more work then I have time for right now! My progress has been slowed by snow and cold. I'll draw up some ideas and get back.:smoke:

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread

This weekend I made some progress. I bought a 4x8' sheet of masonite that was 1/4' thick. I traced the existing door panels and made a cardboard cutout to extend them down to the bottom of the door. The plan is to add a more modern handles and eventually wrap them in vinyl. I've got some really good ideas for the design.

Here's them hanging on the doors:

http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-283.jpg

These pieces are hanging by the door handle and window roller so they look a little skiwumpus.

http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-293.jpg

I repeated the same steps for the front doors.

http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-288.jpg

Here's all of them cut out. I spent about an hour and a half so far. :smoke:

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread

I took the passenger side front and drew a possible design on it. The arm rest would sweep down towards the middle and the panel would be two tone vinyl with the center being light to match the seats. The bottom would be raised up and match the carpet. What do you think?

wow, your skills are awesome! This looks really cool!

So your build thread started in Nov, it's now Feb, did you do all this in this amount of time, with a new baby to boot?

Thanks a lot, I'm glad that you like it.:metal:

I started in October of 2006. I didn't join until until Nov of 07, I had been looking at this sight for quite some time. Mainly watching Frizzle Fry and HartRod's progress for some time in total awe, I didn't have the courage until November to start putting my pictures together. I realize now that I could have taken more pictures because there is a lot that is left out of what I did. I did do all of this while my wife goes to school at night and I watch all of our kids. (That is my youngest.) This is an awesome sight, it is great for sharing ideas, and giving a direction and getting motivation.
Check back later for door panel pics.
