Since I'm switching to a p/s pump from a pickup instead of the tbss I was wondering if the cap was the same. My dipstick appears to be 5.5" long. Can anyone confirm how long one is from a truck p/s pump.

I'll try and get a measurement of mine for you tomorrow....I have both. A truck ps pump on my truck...and the tall reservoir pump on my wifes TBSS.

It's 5.5 on the back and 4.5 on the front. Here are some specs if you need more information. I got them from jdwheels.com because I couldn't find them locally. They seem to have gone up in price since I got them.

Well I'm away now until the 22nd, so I don't have much to update. I ended up just ordering the bracket assembly that is on the pickup trucks to use the truck p/s pump and reservoir, but I didn't have time to put it on. I also made a cab dolly and got the cab on it, but didn't get a chance to take a picture before I left.

You mentioned in another thread that you wanted matching rotor/calipers for the rear. Are you aware that Captfab makes brackets to use the same rotors and calipers to fit your rear axle? Take a look in the Vendor Marketplace or PM Captfab for details.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
yea I'm aware of that, I might go that route, but after getting the 20s, the rotors look pretty small with the wheels so I was thinking about just upgrading to 14" rotors to fit the wheels better and for performance, but thanks for reminding me about that.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
Well I'm not nearly there yet but I am looking for to opinions for the body. I know a guy that has a '78 C10 stepside and he said he would sell it to be. I want opinions on which front end to use, mine, a '78 or a '89-'91 suburban front end. I think I'm leaning towards the suburban front end but want opinions. I also want to know what you guys think about the beds. I think I like the stepside bed idea for the lowered truck and then it's easy to put a wood floor in or should I keep the fleetside bed. I am also thinking of painting it gm atomic orange metallic. I have seen older c10s with this paint color but none this body style so I think it will be unique. Just looking for opinions on anything basically.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
The best bang for your buck are the McGaughy 13" brakes. They are about half the price of a full Wilwood set up and look nice through a 20" wheel.
I know my opinion is biased, but I encourage you to keep the classic styling of the 78 front end. It looks much more correct for these trucks, especially on a stepside. The 88-91 Burb grill is too flat and looks squared off. It does not match the rounded lines of these trucks at all. |
Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
If you are going stepside the 70's front is a must!
|
Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
That is exactly what I was thinking. If I'm gonna go a stepside, I want the older front end but if I keep the fleetside I might go to the newer front end. I'm really leaning to the older front and stepside, my dad hates stepsides though lol. And this truck used to be my grandfathers, so everyone in the family is waiting to see what it looks like when I'm done.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
after thinking about it, I think I am just going to keep everything the same, I finally got home so now work can begin again. I painted the truck access. bracket so hopefully tomorrow the p/s pump and pulley can go on and the bracket and then it should be time for a belt and some p/s lines. I also got a new oil filler tube since mine was broken when I received the engine.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
very nice build so far. Im in college too and know how hard it is to get time to work and have money for parts. All the money i have made working 45-50hrs a week has went into my motor and its still not done, now im rambling haha. I'll be watching this build. Good luck!

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
I'm glad you decided to keep the front end OG...I get tired of seeing so many dudes get rid of a perfectly good 73-80 front end to put the 91 suburban front on it.

Well I have just been cleaning up the firewall the past couple days...here is a picture. I guess the next step is to get the 4l70e converted to 2wd.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
Very nice progress!! Cleaning that black gunk off the firewall is alot of work!

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
Still waiting on p/s bolts to attach the truck reservoir, so no new updates on that. Still working on the cab too. I have never done any body work before, so the door jams, where the two pieces of sheet metal come together, I removed all the previous caulking, and was wondering if I should weld it together and smooth it off or just caulk it like before.

Re: 1982 C10 swb "SS"
What did you use to remove the black stuff from the firewall?
