My hope is that if it is mobile and can be moved in and out of his garage he'll keep it at his house and start tinkering with it. This way he can he can start prepping the inside/ outside of the cab for me to paint it, or rebuild the 350, or put an air-ride system on it etc. I believe he views the 56 as quite the large project (who am I kidding it is) but I'm hoping if I get the ball rolling so it won't be percieved as such a large task. The 350 is also a TBI so it will be easy to start, and I've seen some TBIs that are carberator look a likes...that might be kind of cool. The donor truck also has air...so with a little ingenuity I think I could make it work in the 56 cab.

Do you know what the dimension is betweet the stepwells? I think this will be the only hang up when sitting the 56 body down on the frame.

Thanks Max!

im not sure of the dimentions off hand, but i'll check, allthough im sure that will not be a problem, you will have to move your cab mounts to fit the 55 to the 89....max.

Max,
sweet build.I have to be honest at first i was like, is that going to work and look good.Like you,I have seen the 4x4 look. After reading this whole forum today,I have to say WOW thats amazing that it worked out that good!!! To hell with all the haters.I wish it was summer time,so I could see this one finished.Im building a 58' gmc but I'm going to use a 57' front end, like thunder valley customs, with the grille surrounding painted white and no middle grille. So i know about na-sayers,I caught alot of slack for killing the 58' nose.In my next project I will follow your build and use a 56' cab on a 87' crew cab chassis w/ my 58' nose to make a wedge car hauler.Any ways sorry for the long winded post, but you got me inspired to get back on my 58'.Thanks and keep up the killer fab work..Greg

Kim,
I wish I knew.I tried to google them but had no luck.I saw the pick of there truck in a truckn magizine a few months ago.I'm in NY and wont be home until friday,so i couldnt tell you what month or year.I'll try to post up later. Here are the speck that I know..The truck is a flat blueish green with the roof painted flat white. The head light trim rings are white,as is the front bumper. They run there shop logo on the door(which is how I know of there shop). The truck is bagged and runs what looks to be a 20x10 torque thrust in the rear and a 18x 8 up front, which are polished.I really want my truck to turn out this good.Sorry i can help you further. If any one has any info on this truck please let us know...with thew shop name of thunder valley customs i would assume they would be from the bristol tn. area.

Hey max,
When i get back to ohio I'll post up some of my pics of the 58',Its going to be used as my daily driver and shop truck.I firmly believe you have to drive them.My truck will use air bags all the way around. The reason for this is i like them low also but since I plan to pull a trailer with this truck, I wanted air bags in the rear.It didnt make much since to me to bag the rear and not the front.Any ways you got me pumped up to get home and get back to work. Thanks Greg
Kim, yeah thats a sweet truck, looks very straight.Definately liking the grille.

Tiggerstoy

I had to check back and see how you are doing. All looks good. I have slowed down a lot on my build as my shop is not heated and as you well know winter has hit. My air lines have frozen up. I do hope to insulate it for next winter.

I have just received some body parts from LMC - mostly cab panels - and hope to get the cab into the body shop sometime this winter.

Anyway I was wondering if you have any of the floor pieces left out of your original cab? I need a small piece less than 6 inches square that is located in about the 7 o'clock position around the transmission cover/opening. I can email you pictures of the small opening that was cut out, actually I did it in the 1970's, when I owned the truck the first time around to install a floor shifter.

If you can let me know if you still have any of the floor left and if it is in good enough shape then we can proceed from there.

All the best to you and yours during the holiday season.
