Re: Looking for my Dad's truck My dads 1978 Chevrolet Pickup Ontario
Am I crazy here, or would dad probably have wanted you to buy your own truck, and build it your way, with maybe just a bit if resemblance here and there to his?
Cool that you found it. Good luck on however you proceed! |

Two Fifty not crazy at all, I know my old man would have been just fine with that so that's the route I went. I'm sure he would be honoured enough that I choose the same year as his and am taking on such a task with his memory in mind.

I had a similar story, only it was my father-in-law's truck and we found it on Craigslist after 10 years! https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=792880

I had never tapped into this story before. Sounds like you're having a good time building the truck that you want. I certainly wouldn't want to give thoughts that interfere. Struck me in looking at the pictures of your dad's old truck that his steering wheel, his gauges were still there. I wonder if the current owner would give you the first chance to purchase it when he's done.

Thanks for sharing your story. I haven’t read it yet but I’m looking forward to reading it. So I had the chance to buy my dads truck but I passed on it and have decided to build my own and it has been a very rewarding journey. I haven’t put much wrench time into it lately because of life being busy but seeing this posts makes me want to get back to it. There is such a cool feeling driving these old trucks and getting thumbs up from strangers who get it. Nothing pretentious about these trucks and I use my truck to quote painting jobs I think it says a lot about the people that drive them. You gotta be handy to own something 40 years old. Cheers guys and I’ll have to upload a photo to show the latest progress. Posted via Mobile Device |

Wow it is impressive that you found the truck after all these years.
Inline with my story about a truck a former boss had about 30 years ago that I recently acquired. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=817566 |

Legend thanks, it was pretty amazing I was able to find it for sure.
Your truck looks like it's gonna be a fun one and for the money you can't go wrong considering these things are starting to climb in value. |

Ok guys it's been a while since this post was started and I have to thank you everyone for their suggestions and support throughout the journey. I figured I'd update you on the outcome of my truck that I bought instead of my dad's original truck. I have been working on it for a while now and have rebuilt the suspension, brake system and a bunch of other things. I created a painting business (something my dad and talked about when we was alive) with our family name and designed the logo (I'm also a graphic designer) to match the truck. Gotta say I'm happy with how the truck is coming along and it's a great tribute build that will always be ongoing! Cheers guys. |

Palf will do when I get a chance.
I installed a belltech 4/6 and redid the entire suspension with new bushings. Bent and flared all the brake lines and replaced the entire assembly minus the pedal. Now I'm getting the supports for the box replaced and had the frame reinforced and (some rot) C notch installed. Planning to paint a new tailgate I got last year that will be the lastest but you know with these things there is a ton of other things I have done and will continue to work on as time and funds permit. |
