Wild! I do like the "visor" overhang treatment on the back window. I'd cruise that for sure!

The one before it is more my speed, but that chopped up and stuck back together funkiness would be neat to run around in.
This is exactly the kind of custom I like. One that people see, know they never saw one before, but have to ask "Is that custom?" or just as likely "Is that factory?". Someone did a killer job on this, from top to bottom and inside out. Maybe it was GM... a prototype? I love it, and I love '61s! |

I love the 61.

I know most everybody likes the fins but I prefer the 55 over the fins of 57 and beyond. Just my preference. I like the size of the 55 Chevy overall.

Re: Pic Thread: Not Just El Caminos
All 55 wagons and panels must have Nomad rear wheel openings. And all 55 sedans must have a round rear wheel well openings that the slick (another must have) fits in perfectly.
So let it be written, so let it be done ... |

I've always liked that look from the '60s, but I'm not an "all, always, never" kind of guy. There is a time and place for everything. The '55 Nomad wouldn't be the special factory custom that it is if all the '55s had the same wheel openings, and not all '55 cars have to have the competition look. '55s have always been my favorite. And not just because I was born that year, even though it was the coolest year ever!! They're the original Tri-5 the other two were designed off of. It was the big change. It's the car that was designed to introduce Chevy's first V8. '55s are so cool Chevy made the pickup look like their mate mid-year, and even made the Cameo to mate up with the Nomad... the coolest matched pair on the planet!
These are for you, CG |

Does that mean every time I cruise in this, I'm celebrating the year of your birth Tim?

Yes, and you're doing it proudly I'd say. Are you a '51 baby? I like 49-55s. Nah, no need to celebrate. They already did long ago. I was born in '55 so they decided to do two truck styles that year, all new car style, to come out with the small block, Nomad, Cameo, V8 Vette, and start an interstate system to drive them on.
My favorite years are the transitional years. So '49 was the transition from the fat fenders, still offered the same roof lines, and '55 kept the shoe box look while bringing us into the later '50s. Really, the '53 started the transition that took three years, with the introduction of the Belair, the hardtop, and other details. I'd say the whole group of 49 through '54 were transition models with the "last of" group being 49-52 and the "first of" being 53-54, which primed up for the very modest !!>>55<<!! BTW, Larry, what's up with posting a car in this truck thread anyway? |
Re: Pic Thread: Not Just El Caminos
I favored the 57 over the 55 myself and the reason is because I owned one back in my younger years.. I did buy a 55 2 door post and with a brother in law and sold it to make profit . If I could knock ,,say,, 20 years of myself I would think about buying another 57 ,,but not one with a big motor like I see many of them in car shows,, I would want the 283 4 barrel carb just like I has before. But I would love to own a 55 also .
I never noticed the wheel openngs being different between the Nomads and the Sedans before,,or forgot it ? |

Me too. I like them all. For racing I'm stuck on the '60s/'70s or earlier, but I do dig a classic pro-street car, too. Local car racing has held my interest, but they lost me on the big time level long ago

Early '50s Packard. The only thing custom is the El Caminization. Looks like they were still woodies, so maybe made from a sedan.

Some look like they are. Some look like they'd drive like a go cart. I don't care what it is. If it handles like a go cart I want to drive it........... hard!
Here's a '55, '56, '57, and '58. I couldn't find any custom-built '59s or '60s... huh. I already showed that '61 before, so here is a '62. I don't think there's a year out there someone hasn't done a Mean Ole Elky job on |
